I've used Moleskine notebooks for a couple of years. Just recently I was going to buy a new one and checked with a Swedish dealer (deskstore.se), that instead recommended a German notebook called Leuchtturm1917.

I tried it out, and found that it is really, really nice. A little bit wider than the M, and with numbered pages and an index part in the front, otherwise quite similar to the M. Maybe the German book looks a little...classier.

Anyway, now I can not decide. So In bought both rolleyes.gif

I am also curious about the Clairfountaine notebooks (never seen or tried them). Anyone else that has compared any of these notebooks?

I used a clairfontane notebook in DIN A4 back in the day when i used to draw alot. I thought it was an ecellent notebook, no bleedthrew and u could easily write with FP and dip pens, pencils and u kno.. everything that writes. Same for the smaller books. I never liked the design though I like the classy ones like moleskine and the leuchtturm once ( had neither of them but i really like the design).

Edit: It might've bleed a little but nothin major.. i cant really remember though i cant guarantee for anything (now that was helpfull oO)

In my experience the Leuchtturm books have paper even worse than Moleskines, but I liked the additional features (the prenumbered pages, as you said, or the sticky tags to label your notebook covers). I think the extra large sized Leuchtturm books may have better paper but I'm not sure.
