Fountain Pen Club
A warm welcome from Michigan. I am relative new to FPN and while I have so far only read the forum I will try to become more active in the coming days.

I am a great fan of the Montblanc Fountain Pens and the really old, vintage pens. I have been collecting fountain pens for the past decade and have been part of several trade shows.

Greetings from Michigan.

Thank you for the nice welcome. I wouldn't have thought that there are so many fountain pen friends from Michigan.

We live in the Traverse City area now, but i did my high school years in Rochester Hills. That was decades ago! I've only known one person from Southfield...that was Ken Raby. That wouldn't be you, would it?! blink.gif

Hello and welcome from the west side of the state, over just west of K'zoo. I was also surprised by the number of fountain pen lovers from michigan when I joined a couple of weeks ago.

Welcome.

What's with the website that aggregates eBay auctions from sellers with which you (presumably) have nothing to do?

Explain.

Hi, Southfield. I'm in Southfield, too- the northeast end.

This is the first forum I've been in, and I'm not sure how to navigate yet, but am learning.

I'm Ashley, a new member. I'm just beginning to get more serious about fountain pens, but my main problem is that I'm left-handed, and get smears and ink on the side of my palm that moves acxross the paper as I write. I need to find quick-drying ink and something that won't wash away if the paper gets wet.

I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks.

I'm a left-handed overwriter, so quick drying times are important to me as well. Keep in mind, however, that the ink itself is only one of the factors that affects drying time. Using narrower nibs will also result in quicker drying times. Additionally, ink will dry more slowly on high quality papers (such as Clairefontaine). I tend to use fine or extra-fine nibs, and either Cambridge writing pads or Am Pad Gold Fiber pads. As far the ink itself, the fastest drying ink I've ever used is Swisher brand (not SwishMix) ink. Swisher brand ink are designed to dry quickly on high quality paper, but they also dry instantaneously (no exaggeration) on Cambridge writing pads. Some people complain that Swisher inks have a chemical smell, however, but I've never found this to be a problem.

I've also found that the following inks dry quickly:

Aurora Blue
Parker Quink Red
Pelikan Violet
Private Reserve Lake Placid Blue
Sheaffer Skrip Jet Black
Waterman Red

I don't use any waterproof inks, but I believe that Noodlers has several inks in that category.

Still waiting on that explanation, buckaroo.
