Yes, BEWARE... when you realice that you have been infected by the RSPV (Rising Sun Pen Virus) ... it is already aaages late!

This time Kevin (with all respects, the Infecting Doctor) sended two pens in a parcel. One Takumi Sakura-kawa (cherry tree bark) which will be uploaded other day into this forum, and an absolutely spectacular Maki-e Peacock feather, in Takumi size, by "Super" Kogaku... The work has to be seen to be believed. When examining this pen with the naked eye, there are lots of details to be admired, but still you loose perhaps most of them. I knew it was a beautyful work, but it was not until I started to look through the macro lens that I realized the EXTREME meticulosity of the work done in this pen (as uses to happen by those super artists...)

I will let the photos speak by themselves as I still am kind of speechless... blink.gif

Enjoy as much as I do...
Jose

You da man when comes to macro photography. You are right as some of the details are much more evident when examined under macro mode. Enjoy the pens in good health!

Best,

Yes, you are absolutely right, it is an amazing artwork, and I could add that it may touch the purse, but not as much as it touches the heart!

Hi Jopen,

Wow. That is one beautiful Maki-e artwork. I have to agree with you , Mr. Koichiro Okazaki , is a talented and master artisan of this art.
I have the Soka Monyo , Floral Design ( Conway Stewart Maki -e LE ) done by him and was also blown away by his work.
Congratulations! Use it in good health.

Ha ha... It could be a nice idea, as they did already with spiders and other insects...

Thanks for your comments and wishes again.

Sometimes, when we see and enjoy such extraordinary works we may tend to forget who has left a lot of hours and skill, making such ideas come to life. I will use one of Kevin's pictures to show here the man behind this and many other marvelous pens... our admired Kogaku. (picture is used without permision, but sure Kevin will understand lticaptd.gif )

great pics and superb workmanship, i can only guess that in the flesh so to speak it look even more amazing. i think the pen is an interesting medium for presenting fine artwork in as mush as it can be used as an every day object that can be carried around with you. i can't really think of any other medium that is as functional.
Jopen
Yes, it may be more amazing as you say "in flesh" as you can play with light as you like and the 3-dimensional work can be fully observed and admired. That (ask Kevin and others) makes so difficult taking photos to Maki-e pens, because they never do justice to the model ... but we try to do our best.
Thanks...

hey, now your just being modest, there great pics thumbup.gif

I am photo impaired and I whither with envy at your photo skill. This is a lovely pen made alive and more lovely by your pictures. - And now I must content with the lust for this make-e masterpiece that your photos have motivated!
Jopen
Thanks FrankB.
Light has been always a mistery for me and light is the "secret" for the photos... that means that practice and more practice will finally teach and I am learning step by step... This pen deserves sure a more proficient photographer, it is absolutely special and this is the reason for sharing part of its beauty.
