Originally from the Eastern US, I am a recent transplant to Alaska. Several months ago I was finally unpacking and reconstructing my office, and I noticed a long forgotten box containing my mother’s fountain pens. She bought two Sheaffer Balances when she graduated from college in 1939 and started working as a bookkeeper. After I was born, she worked out of her home office, and I have many fond memories of sitting at her desk, watching her work on the big ledgers with these pens. Mom gave me her pens about 20 years ago, but I was busy at work so I packed them away.
When I finally unpacked the box of pens I found them all unusable, with the ink sacs all decayed. So I searched the net for information about repairing the pens, and I discovered FPN. What a great resource! Now, thanks to some talented individuals, my mom’s pens are all working like new!
I’ve also re-discovered the joys of using fountain pens. In the past several months I’ve acquired several nibs of various sizes and types, in various Conway Stewart, Pelikan, and Yard-O-Led pens. With diligent practice my handwriting has greatly improved, and now I’m enjoying the use of these vintage and modern pens. Thanks, FPN.

Welcome, seres!
I echo what wolverine and playpen said.
I lived in Kodiak, Alaska, for two years when I was a kid (military brat). I have many fond memories...
leans back, starts to remember in detail... nice

I"m in south central, what they locally call the "Valley"; the nearest town is Palmer. I'm retired

from aviation, most recently a corporate pilot.

Hi seres and welcome aboard. How did you come to the name seres? Does it have something to do with FPs that I'm totally unaware of?

No, nothing as sophisticated as that! Simply my monogram backwards and frontwards.

Hello and and welcome to the FPN!

The older Sheaffer Balances are a treat to write with. They are a large pen, and when it great condition, will write like a dream.
