Full Version: Montblanc pen presumed not a fake!
The Fountain Pen Network > Brand Focus > The Montblanc Forum

I own five Montblanc pens, and I am not worrying if any of them are counterfeit. I haven't taken steps to have them formally examined, but that isn't preventing me from accepting them for what they appear to be.

There is no investigation ongoing about any or all of them, and I am not scrutinizing their detail to corroborate what I already presume to be true.

I hope this news doesn't upset any of you, but sometimes we just have to go against the flow.

So do they write well? If so, what more could you ask for? smile.gif

You are right Fred. Instead of a MB forum, this is rapidly becoming an alarmist forum.

I just realize that among the top 10 threads in the MB forum, about 5 of them are on fake MB pens.

I never wonder about the authenticity of my 5 MBs either -- because I bought them all from authorised dealers. It is just not worth it to save a few bucks via a "great deal" on ebay, only to later spend sleepless nights wondering whether what you have is the real thing and feeling like a fool. If you cannot afford the prices of authorised MB dealers (even though sometimes they can have super discounts -- you'd be surprised), then either save money until you can, or buy one of the many other wonderful but less expensive pens. Shady ebay deals are really not the answer. People don't want to hear that, but this is good advice.

That's the most shocking title for a thread yet.

You are a disgrace to this forum, which should be dedicated to doubt, soulsearching and angst.

bunny01.gif I include the wiggling bunny merely because I can.

Why is it that most people that have posted on this topic seem to agree with him but when I post something about fake watches I get a load of bs. I know fake watches aren't really me but hey it tells time better than my hamilton and it looks good. Same for this post if you buy a fake mont blanc yeh thats fine it may even write better than the real thing. glare.gif

Thanks

That is good advice if you are buying a pen currently in production. If you want to buy a limited edition or a discontinued pen, this is not always an option. For example, I'm currently saving up for a Jules Verne FP, and I'm not aware of any authorized dealers who still have any. (I haven't even seen any on eBay.)

The original poster was being sarcastic about all of the fears of fake pens on this forum.

Generally speaking, while there aren't extensive rules prohibiting discussion of fake items, they are illegal, and fake items are not discussed in positive terms around FPN.

Good point. But you know, there are several legitimate and well-respected dealers who will make it their task to track down discontinued or older LEs, either NOS or gently used, as you specify, and get it for you at a discount too. For example, are you familiar with Airlines International? The name may sound odd, but they've been in business since 1978 and maintain an extensive database of contacts and collectors from whom they can buy back old releases. I would give them a call and talk to Eddie Kallman. You just may get a deal there better than on ebay, and rest easy at night with your authentic pen glistening on the night-table beside you.

Airline International has an incredible selection of pens, and I have purchased from them many times in the past. Their customer service is great, and Eddie Kallman is really nice guy. If your looking for the Jules Verne MB I'm sure they have it. If they don't I know they'll be able to track one down for you. Every pen that I was looking for that I couldn't find Eddie found one for me. I usually check w/ penstop online and Bittner pens first though. I've found them both to be great places to purchase from as well. For me, I stay clear of ebay as far as purchases go. I'd rather just look to see what certain pens are going for. When I purchase an expensive pen, I don't mind paying a little more to not have to worry about real or fakes. These 3 dealers I found to be legit!

It's your money. I will continue to scrutinize all sales outside of authorized dealers. Good luck.

Maybe my comment was not really needed but it's pretty hard to tell if someone is being sarcastic on a forum.

You have to read the inflection.

If it's a fake and it writes better than the real thing, then you are better off on at least two counts.

I'd think you'd be safe buying an MB from speerbob on ebay, as I have just done(it eventually arrived today..he said it would take a while).
Mine appears as expected to be completely genuine, and in better than described condition, IMO.
