Full Version: nib problem?

I just bought a Taccia Imperial Portugeuse and a Laban Meno, both converter filled, and have been having the same problem with each of them. They write great for a while and then the nib runs dry. When I open up the pen, I see there is still plenty of ink in the converter. So I tighten it down a bit, and then the pen writes great again. I have other converter pens and don't have this problem, which makes me wonder--is it a nib problem? Does the nib need to be adjusted somehow? Any ideas what could be causing this, and what I can do about it? Thanks!

Your nib could be adjusted to write wetter but I don't think that is the problem. It sounds to me like there isn't any air exchange getting into the converter and that makes me think there is a problem with the feed. It may need flushing several times or even some cleaning.

To me, the key words here are: "I just bought..."

By this I assume the pens are brand new?

I think your problem is that they're filled with all kinds of gunk leftover from the manufacturing process, that is disrupting the pen's ability to write properly.

Empty the pen and clean repeatedly by filling and emptying with plenty of *COLD* water. Dry overnight and then refill the next morning and try again smile.gif

Eric, if you go down the page a bit, you will find a thread about Taccia customer service. Posters discussed the ink flow issue you have mentioned, and Taccia customer service replied:

"We're truly sorry for all of the ink flow issues that have been brought up here. Please rest assured that we are as upset about the issue as we're sure all of you are, and have been working with our German nib supplier to get to the bottom of it. Please also note that a vast majority of Taccia fountain pens write very well without any ink skippage.

I am meeting up with our German supplier in a couple of weeks, so I will have more to report then. In the meantime if you're experiencing inconsistent ink flow please e-mail my personal e-mail address (tony AT taccia.com) with your information, including name, mailing address, nib type (two-tone or steel), and nib size. We will either be sending out new replacement parts or new nibs once we've discussed the issue with our supplier. Thank you for your patience.

Cheers,

Tony"

They are aware and trying to get the problem resolved. I am also very interested in the resolution.

there was a review, Link , of a Taccia and a similar problem was solved by replacing the converter.
