Has anyone tried "Rite in the Rain" notebooks with fountain pens? I was wondering how well the paper works with fountain pen ink. Any information will be appreciated.

Not from personal experience, but I'd assume that the paper wouldn't take fountain pen ink very well. It's made to be water resistant, and FP ink is water based.

Rite in the Rain paper resists water pretty well and it resists ink equally well. I switched to Rhodia staple bound pocket notebooks when I started carrying a fountain pen with Noodler's bulletproof ink in preference to a ballpoint.

Won't take fountain pens at all. Use either a pencil or a ballpoint, particularly the Fisher Spacepen variety (which they also sell under their own Rite-in-the-Rain brandname). I keep a RITR pad and pen in two places in my apartment: (1) by the sink to write down my shopping list because when I think of something I need, my hands are always wet from washing dishes or cooking something; and (2) by the bathtub so I can sit in the tub and write notes. These are places where I can't really use a fountain pen...

Thanks for the input, I need a journal for taking out camping and fishing, needless to say things will get wet. Rite in the Rain field books look perfect, guess I will have to use a ball point with them.

I sell them. You can't use any ballpoint, at least as far as I have been told. You can however use pencil. They are kind of interesting. I would look at the firefighter books as they are simple grid pages.

A Sanford Uni-ball works quite well with Rite in the Rain notebooks.

Sorry, should have qualified that the paper is wet. If it works with a standard ballpoint when wet I would like to know.

I don't think a standard ballpoint (or Uni-ball) will write on it when it's wet. In fact the ink tends to run some when the paper gets wet. That's why I switched to Rhodia notebooks and Noodler's bulletproof inks. I really liked the plastic covers of the Rite in the Rain notebooks, though.

The mark of a plain pencil is amazingly durable. I marked an aluminum tank for volume at various levels with a pencil, then painted over the marks. The paint wore off, but pencil marks several years old remain.

Rite in the Rain won't take fountain pen, but if you're looking for a waterproof "paper" that will take fountain pens, here's a link to the Eureka Lab Book Poly paper test. It takes ink better than most paper papers. It takes a longer time for the ink to dry, but it works great and it's waterproof.

Problem with RiTR paper is that it is waxed paper, just like the coffe & cola cups from McDonnalds.
Therefore when you write on it with a ballpoint or a Fisher, it smears out when you've got the written pad in you pocket.
I think they are somewhat disastrous.
The polyprop paper is a bit better, doesn't tear, is compleatly waterproof (even a 45m under water) and smears less.
