Help! I've been left with a wobbly esterbrpok, that has to be the weirdest thing I've said today.... yes it has been a boring day!

Anyway, my poor and relatively new esterbrook was being prodded and probed by the adoring millions (ermm two) and whilst distracted one of them decided to see where the cartridge goes, this is one with a sac... crybaby.gif *throttl's* and ever since the part that holds the nib doesn't sit well in the rest of the barrel and keeps working free.... What can I do to save my esterbrook

Yours, thankfully,

Kez

Hi Kez,

I believe you're saying that the section is loose in the body. I've had this with a couple of Esterbrooks and found an easy solution of slipping a tiny nick of paper down along with the section, this kind of thickens the section and keeps everything steady. Someone else on this board might also have better advice.

But you should definitely be punishing those who messed with you pen. And collecting more Esties in a variety of sizes and colors and nibs like the rest of us.

Hmmm... might just be a section that had some sealant on it, or more sinister and they broke the body threads. With the section removed, run your fingernail around the opening and see if you can "feel" a crack.

Worst case, you have some spare parts.

It appears that I'm suffering nothing as sinister as cracks...! smile.gif

Have tried the but of paper trick, with great sucsess!

My vengeance was of course swift and fearful and my despair was indeed great and awful, so in order to console myself, I have just bought three more esties in order to console myself!

Thanks very much Firefyter-Emt and falika!

i am sure someone will get on me if this is a bad idea but for a more permanant fix, I'd give the section part that slips into the barrel thin coat of clear or black lacquer.
That would also thicken the section so it would fit tighter.

I've used this technique successfully a number of times. I generally use the shellac that I use for sac replacements. The shellac is very thin and can be applied in multiple layers (allowing plenty of drying time between coats), plus I know that it contains nothing that might harm the plastic material of the section.

Hmmmm...thanks for that. Gonna try that on my shaky piece-of-paper-strengthified dolar pen tonight.

I might in the future get round to trying the shellac option, however as I dont own any and the estie is seeing very lite use at the moment, I think that the paper will suffice!

How is the paper trick holding up? I am having the same issue and just picked up some shellac.
