Due to the information I gleaned from the thread on the country of manufacture of Cross products, I decided to add to my collection of pens by completing the Cross Metropolis set I started quite a few years ago with a black and chrome Metropolis PDA stylus. I got this back when I was still using my Palm phones and Newtons. I've moved on to an iPhone, but I'm still playing around with a Nokia 770 Internet Tablet, so I still use the Metropolis stylus.

I was lucky to find two NOS sets of the Metropolis line in black and chrome, consisting of one set of a fountain pen and rollerball, and another set of a ballpoint and mechanical pencil. They should be on the way to me shortly!

The fountain pen is a medium point and comes with all the original accessories, uninked and unused. Now I will finally have a full set of the only Cross pen that's ever really caught my eye, and they are all Made in USA, to boot!

So, did arrive or not? And, was I right on the fact that the original nibs are gold plated steel with the engraved skyline and not 14K ones?

The pens arrived yesterday, and I've just had the opportunity to ink the fountain pen and give it a whirl. Although the seller advertised the nib as being 14K, there doesn't seem to be any actual indication on the nib or anywhere in the packaging, so I can only assume that it is not, in fact, solid 14K gold, but a plated nib. Regardless, the price was excellent for four NOS writing instruments, and the nib itself performs well, if a bit finer than what I would normally expect from a "medium" (but not a problem).
