Full Version: any idea how to separate section/barrel on 1918 Sheaffer

I've repaired a fair number of Sheaffer lever fillers, but this one has me stumped. I recently found a lovely little sterling Sheaffer set from 1918: a ring top, ribbon pattern fp (lever filler, sac is ossified) and a ring top pencil (still has lead in it). I'm not sure where to begin with taking apart this fp to examine the sac and barrel. Anyone have experience with taking these things apart?
Thanks for the suggestions

Ya, they take apart just before the threads like any Sheaffer. Now, if you have a later metal section it slides out from under the threads. If there has been some shrinkage you need to rotate it out as if it is treaded (though it is not).

Thanks very much. A little heat and a little patience and it came right apart. Now the cleaning process begins...
