Hi folks,
I am scouting around for a new pen to lust over, and I was hoping for some advice. I'm looking for an extra fine point pen with a piston filler. Ideally, it should be under $100. I'm aware that I can get a Pelikan M200 with a Binder XF, and that's my fallback. I'm also aware that piston fillers tend to be pricey, so this may just be a pipe dream. Still, it never hurts to ask

Thanks,
Daosus

Sounds unlikely but the Hero #710, a Cross Clone, from isellpens.com is needle fine and writes like a dream. I purchased one for my planner and I'm thrilled with it. For a cheap pen it acts like something many times it's price. something like $14.00 plus shipping...

Just out of curiosity, why is a Binder Pelikan your "fallback"? Don't like Pelikans/don't want another?

You can find second hand Lamy 2000s for under $100. And if you really want to go budget, there's always the Wality Piston Filler - its marked as a fine nib, but I think it writes somewhere between fine and x-fine. Good luck with the hunt!

If you get the Wality and it's too wide, you can have it ground down for $15-$25 at a variety of places - and still stay well under $100.

$10 - $15 for a Reform Fine from Lexaf would not strain your bank balance
These Fine Nibs have been reported as XF but I wouldn't know .. I rate them as a 0.25 Rapidograph which is the thinnest pen I use to draw with these days (I used to use the 0.18)

Thank you very much for the replies. The Pel is not so much a "fallback," as another option that I'm considering.
*EDIT* -Holy cow, I just looked up the Wality...those things are almost as cheap as Heros! Excellent.
The M200 is on the high end of $100, but admittedly, if I bought it, it'd be the last XF I'd buy.

Oscar Braun Pens (http://www.oscarbraunpens.com) has the Lamy 2000 for $99.88. Admittedly, shipping will tilt you over $100., but still it's a pen worth considering.
Usual disclaimer: I am not now nor have I ever been affiliated with Oscar Braun pens.

This is what I was going to say. I've bought two pens from Pam (aka Oscar Braun Pens) in the past two weeks (a 2000 XF, followed by a Studio 14k XF)...she's easy to deal with, has great prices, and ships super-quickly. Two thumbs up.
The Lamy 2000 is really extremely top-notch.

Now, where have I heard that before?

The Lamy 2000 is a great pen, but the nib sizes run wide (or they supposedly do, my fine nib writes like a fine nib). Wality's have hard plastic plungers, so they don't seal as well as they should. but they are still decent writing pens with a thin line. I'd recommend a Reform over it, though, like the one from speerbob's ebay store. That pen has worked out very nicely for me, especially considering the low price.

I've said it a few times.
