Greetings to the Forum,

First time poster with a question.

Also -- accidentaly posted this in the wrong forum just now. Sorry for the repeat if you see it twice...

For the record - coming back to fountain pens. A FP was my first ink device when I move from pencil to pen in the 60's. Have a Cr... er.. different brand pen now, but I like old school stuff.

Picked this up on Ebay this week:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=330233402113

Bidding was pretty high when I threw my bid in, hope I didn't pay TOO much extra.

Ad says never inked, so I take that to mean never used.

I want to start using this pen - what would you recommend?

Many thanks.

Well even though its "a new pen" its been sitting for some time and would probably need to have the sac and seals checked before you start to use it. There are a number of Sheaffer repair people on here and they will probably chime in on this shortly.
Great looking set. Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the forum.

Hi.. very nice set, I am sure you would have no problems with the Pencil roflmho.gif .. as far as the fountain pen, never inked = never used or dipped .. did you try to fill it ?? I have a feeling it shall work fine ... if it did fill and write properly then fair and good otherwise you send it to be serviced ( sac change)..Good luck
PS: price sounds decent for such set thumbup.gif

Nice set. Try filling with water, there's a slight chance it might be working, but may not work for long, the seals and sac probably need to be replaced now or in the very near future. If you get a good strong stream of water after filling, then you should be ok, if it's wimpy drops - head to Sherrell Tyree @ Ink-Pen, the vintage Sheaffer repair guru!

Bidding didn't go high. You did well.

To use the pen? I suggest... ink. wink.gif

Oh, which ink?

Well, most work well. Can always start with Sheaffer, Parker, Pelikan. Some of the newer brands, Diamine, Private Reserve, etc

I concur with David's estimate, and also with the likelihood of new sac and seals being needed (which, even sending it out to have those seen to, you're still looking at a reasonable purchase).
