They look quite nice, and I think reasonably priced for a handmade book. Anyone have one?

The name sort of creeps me out thumbup.gif so I can say that I don't have one...but I am always looking for another FP friendly journal.

Rag & Bone journals rock! We have lots of fans out there. I use them everyday. They're solid, yet have an unmistakable handmade look and feel.

Of course I'm biased - I make them!

Any questions, just ask.

Cheers

Are the journals lined or unlined?

Hello, they're blank pages only - no lines at this time. Thanks!

Why is the paper described as "scratchy"? I thought FP folks consider scratchiness a flaw.
Do you send out paper samples? Just a couple sheets in a #10 envelope with a first-class stamp.

"Scratchy" isn't a technical term, rather it describes the surface in a way non-technical (non bookbinders or letterpress) people can understand. The correct term is "Vellum Finish". So it's not "smooth". Rather, our paper is a 65C vellum finish bright white.

If you want a sample, we're happy to send one. Just call the studio direct at 888 338 8128 and ask Janet to send you a sheet.

Cheers!

So it feels like velum? Or is velum today specifically referring to the transparent effect as well as the texture?

Would you do a special order? I like the look of the journal but 144 pages just isn't enough for me thumbup.gif Could you do a triple or quad thickness book of 430 to 500 or so pages? I have several (too many) smaller journals and I would love to have one overall that I would keep using for years.

thanks,'

It doesn't feel like "Calfskin", Vellum is the term paper vendors use to refer to a paper which is not "smooth". It feels nice. Like letterpress or watercolor paper.

Kurt,

Unfortunately, we aren't able to do custom work, unless we are doing hundreds / thousands of pieces - if you want a lot, we can talk! You can ask on the book arts list - a forum for bookbinders. Lot's of custom bookbinders who do this kind of work.

Cheers!

My first impression was the same, but I suppose that it is in reference to %100 cotton rag paper and bone folders. Still, the rag and bone man comes to mind first. Neat products by the way!
