I'll soon have one of these 70's ballpoints on the way from a Marketplace seller. I already know that it has two toothmarks in the end of the barrel. Does anyone know what type of plastic they're made of, and whether/how the toothmarks can be popped out with heat?

They're ordinary polystyrene, and heating the pen to "pop out" the teethmarks will likely destroy it.

I've never used heat on a polystyrene pen. What does it do -- turn it into a shapeless blob or something? And: Not even, say, very warm water? Does the plastic have no "memory" (just a yen for melting)?

At least the scratches will polish right out (assuming there are no other tricks up the pen's sleeve...).

Well, the pen came, and it's a little beyond the two little toothmarks I envisioned. Is there anything I can use to "spackle" this pen ? Do they make black Bondo (...or maybe black polystyrene filings and acetone?..)
