Santa brought me a new Canon 20D camera for Chrismas! Well..ok, so I bought it myself, just trying to help the jolly old elf out.

Photography has been a serious hobby of mine since high school. I have owned and used nine different camera systems since then, the latest being Canon EOS 35mm film system. I had several(many) lenses in the EOS mount so I decided I needed a digital body to go with them.

Here's one of the first pictures taken with the 20D:



Obie(the cat) looks a little nervous because he KNOWS he isn't supposed to be up there. Actually, it's his house, he just tolerates the rest of us.

That is my Paradise pen limited edition(#4 of 100) Stipula Novacento. Great pen, prettier in person. I'm still getting to know the camera and lighting setup. I hope future offerings are a little more professional looking. Thanks for looking!

What lens did you take that picture with, btw? I noticed it was at 1/13th of a second and F11, so I reckon this is light tele.

I used a Canon 28-135, IS lens on a tripod. The lens was set at 135mm, about 24 inches from the pen. I then cropped the image and resized it in Photoshop. The pen in question is one of my favorites. It's beautiful, writes well, and I got for half price on sale!

That isn't really a housecat. He's a Miniature black and white Panther(or so he seems to think). He's only one and a half years old, so he hasn't got us fully trained yet.

I did use a tent of sorts. I bought a white mesh folding clothes hamper from Bed, Bath, and Beyond for $7.99 and then added a white hankerchief over the left side where the light was placed. On the right side of the tent, inside, I put a white sheet of paper vertically to act as a reflector. I need a second light and some better background material, I just haven't had a lot of time with the holidays and normal craziness around here. I hope to improve my pen pictures in the new year.

I'm actually a pretty good photographer, I make my living with an industrial infrared camera, but I really haven't done a lot of close-up work. I intend to enjoy learning all about macro photography.

p.s. The hamper is only 14 inches per side, so it's not much good for anything bigger than a pen.
