Wow, Havana Brown looks quite nice! Thanks!

Is it just my odd screen or why does the Green, the Blue-Black and the Turquoise (South Sea Blue) look so much the same?

They are fairly similar, though they didn't used to be; ten or more years ago you wouldn't have said that. But for some reason Waterman changed their formulas for Blue Black and Green, making the former paler and greener than it had been and making the latter paler and more blue (it's no longer a colour I could imagine ever using for "serious" writing). I wish they hadn't - their bl-bl and green used to be my favorites.

Florida Blue and Havana Brown are two of my favorites. I like the examples of Waterman Purple I 've seen, but none of my local B&M's sell it. I'll have to order some online.
Tonux
Hi

Indeed, RayMan, Florida Blue is a nice deep 'true' blue. One of the best blues that I know. Havana is also a pretty color.

Really, Blue-Black color don't exists from a few years ago. Waterman must put inside the Blue-Black bottles a true Blue-Black ink angry.gif

I'm wondering then how it could be called a Blue-Black when it looks like a cross between Turquoise and Green ... by the way I don't use Blue-Black inks (only Black AND Blue laugh.gif), but I have always imagined an Blue-Black ink to be darker than a blue and ranges between blue AND black - but actually, the blue-black looks much lighter to me than Florida Blue!

Hi

Again the Waterman Blue-Black (on white copy paper, medium nib, Cross fountain pen, good flow)

1- Under sky light or daylight lamps

Before drying, it has a nice dark blue color. But after the color changes to a somewhat pale green/turquoise yikes.gif

2- Under yellowish bulb light (classic bulb)

The dark blue is quite persistent

Hi

Here it is a update to my old samples that I've put here some time ago.

Even after evaporating (and concentrating) the Waterman blue-black, the ink has still a turquoise sign, but not green, now.
Caran d'Ache Blue Night is a nice dark blue, almost black/gray. (It is not a true blue-black ink)
Waterman Florida Blue and Caran d'Ache Blue Sky are similar, but the last is a bit pale and somewhat purple, like royal blue.
Montblac Blue-Black, is for me the only true among these BB's. It contains some gall iron compounds (bad for the pens).
Carabbean Sea has an interesting color, in the domain of the turquoise colors, but not accuratly turquoise.
Havana is also a nice brown.

How current are these colors? Are they all new Waterman inks from 2008?

Hi Shamouti

Yes. They are.
All colors of Waterman are:

Black - for me a good black
Blue-Black - not a true blue-black
Florida Blue - nice color; a true blue
South Sea Blue - turquoise
Havana - Brown; a real brown
Purple(violet) - A nice purple
Green - A regular green
Red - A regular red

Thanks Tonux, that's very helpful.

My Waterman South Sea Blue ink doesn't have any signs of turquoise in it. Turquoise is one of my favorite colors and I was shocked when I tried the South Sea Blue, expecting to see a turquoise - instead I see a medium blue, very similar to Diamine Mediterranean Blue.

I was considering buying/trading for a bottle of Waterman Blue Black, and am glad I didn't.

The color of ink, and B-B in general, is very subjective, but under no circumstances would I call Waterman B-B a B-B. It just isn't. You scan would have to be significantly lightened, or my monitor significantly off, for Waterman B-B to be anything close to a true B-B.

Hi

After drying it looks like a gray-blue-turquoise, more or less, with a medium nib and good flow. Well, not a uggly color, but it isn't a blue-black... indeed.
