Full Version: Type with your handwriting?

It's still slashdotted while I post this, but I'll post it before i forget to.

Now it's possible to turn your own handwriting into a usable font, via web browser!

http://fontstruct.fontshop.com/

It's all under the Creative Commons license, in case anyone is curious.

edit: At least as far as some claim. If it's not so true, Then I'll be thoroughly embarrassed, and have plenty of proof to show why to wait for a page to load before posting its link.

Unfortunately, FontStruct is not a full featured font editing application. Instead it allows you to construct glyphs using pre made modules and primitives. There's a screenie of the interface here: http://blog.wired.com/geekdad/2008/04/fontstruct-make.html

Fontifier does it for $9. Print out a form, fill in the blanks, scan, upload, and you're done. Haven't done it myself but have read lots of enthusiastic reviews.

I'm going to have to try this... probably a few times until I get it "right".... Looks like fun.

It's nice that there are some self-help apps for doing this. Fonts of one's own handwriting are particularly popular among comic artists. That way they can get the same look and feel of traditional comics lettering with the ease of use and speed of keyboarding.

I've yet to see a program sophisticated enough to emulate my note-taking handwriting. It's rather unconventional.

But. . . But. . . But. . . I type so people can read what I send them.

Then again, my handwriting as a font could be some type of encryption.

If you learned copperplate, you could write your typing!

Exactly. My handwriting could be considered "strong encryption." Sometimes, even I need fuzzy logic to decode it.
The last thing I want is type that looks like my handwriting. What I need is handwriting that looks like type.
