Full Version: Italic sizes question

Trying again.. I can't find this information on the CS website. Perhaps I'm simply blind..

The nib sizes are given as Italic Broad, IM, IF, but I can't find the actual size for those.. Other pen makers list in MM.. such as 1.1, .9, .7 -- are these roughly the equivalent? to CS's IB, IM, and IF??

Does anyone know the exact sizes/width's/lines of the CS italic nibs? I have a .4, .5, and .9 and would like to get something that's about .7 (I tried a 1.1 and it was a beautiful line. but just a little too wide for me to use much in an italic).

So, any info is appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

You might be better asking CS themselves. If you find out I'm sure there would be those on the list interested in the result.

Thanks Mary, I'm waiting to hear. They never bothered to reply to my email. Hopefully you'll have better luck with it.

Hi,

Please do not feel that I am holding back on this information. I'm chasing the UK for a response and will continue to do so.

How strange that this information should be so difficult to attain. Rather bizarre. Makes one wonder if it's a tightly guarded secret for whatever reason, or that they just don't know the exact specs of their own nibs. Anyway, it certainly is very weird to say the least.

I don't know if this will help or how accurate the info contained in the post is, but one of the sizes is specified here, http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/in...?showtopic=3319, but it is from a purchaser and not the company. Bryan said his medium italic is 1.1

Thanks for the find Lefthander... so, if the Italic Medium is 1.1, then probably the IF would be about .9 and the IB should be about 1.3. I think I also read somewhere that the flip sides of these nibs are designed to be used also. If I remember correctly, the IF has the italic on the flip side, and a regular rounded fine for normal use (opposite of the Binder Italifine). I think the IB had the broad italic in the normal position, and the flip side is either a medium or a fine italic. The author of that review post didn't mention anything about the flip side of the nib but it does appear to be a smaller italic possibility.

Of course, I don't know any of this information as "factual", just what I've read on the net.
