Hello-

I just got my first Pelikan FP. Its an M200 translucent with a medium nib. I think its too wide for my taste. I read in the guarantee that I have 4 weeks to return it for a nib exchange. Does anyone know how that's done? Does the dealer do it or do they return it to Germany or what?

And I would like advice on nib width. I have a vintage Parker 45 with XF nib that I rather like. Any thoughts on an XF Pelikan nib?

Thanks

I have not done it, but others here have, so you will get the answer that you need.

Chartpack is the US distributor of Pelikan. You send the pen to them. You might try searching this forum for Chartpak. The phone number and contact person has been posted many times.

Good luck!

Oh yeah, thoughts on XF Pelikans - I believe the consensus is that the XF nibs are especially inconsistent. You might try your luck, or you might end up unhappy. I have three custom ground Pelikan nibs - XXF, XXXF, and .3mm stub, but I do not have personal experience with the factory XF.

Pelikan no longer makes an extra-fine nib for the M200 although there are still some out in the field. They are wonderful nibs so worth tracking down. If you cannot locate one you will have to go for a 14k gold one from the M400, which will incur a surcharge. However, even when properly adjusted the line from a 14k gold extra-fine nib is only slightly different in width to that from an M200 steel fine nib.

Martin
