I can state that I have lost at least one letter that is about 3 years old which I found while unpacking stuff in the new house. Have you ever done this embarssing thing?

I once discovered an important letter my cat had knocked under a bookcase - it was several months old at that point and I was very embarrassed by it's discovery.

The state of my desk is occasionally sufficiently embarrassing that I can lose items on top of it, let alone within it.

A year or so ago in Australia an old Post Office building was being decommissioned. In removing the furniture and fittings, a Registered Letter that was many decades old was found on top of a cupboard. It was promptly dispatched and delivered.

It appears that it was a bit busy the day the letter was lodged, and it was put on top of the cupboard to be dealt with later, and forgotten about for all those years...

My desks are legendary abysses that surely contain errant items such as letters, checks, notes, lottery tickets and much much more. There is rarely a file that does not contain at least one misplaced article of paper. Heaven only knows what may lurk behind or underneath. /Craig

I don't do any pen-and-paper personal correspondence, but I have managed to lose a lot of letters which were fairly important (much to mum's annoyance). How I ever managed to do that, i don't really know, because there is **NOWHERE** on my desk that a letter could hide!

...apart from under the mountain of papers I keep next to my pen-chest!

I lost a client's check within minutes after opening their letter last week. Retraced my steps, moved magazines, looked under piles of whatever, even checked the trash. Couldn't find it. Had to call and ask them to re-send it, minus the $20 cancel-check fee, which made an already small check even smaller.

I've lost letters, too, but at least I didn't have to call and admit it.
