I have been watching these pens on E-Bay and want one but with a tight budget and an Esterbrook/Wearever habit to feed, they most of the time go beyond my price range. Here is an example of one I was going to get but since I already plan on a Wearever from a fellow FPN'r it went , again, beyond the budget. These pens usually go for Esterbrook prices or more and I was wondering why. For me, the celluloid colors and designs are always eye catching but are they a really good "functional" pen?

How bizarre - they are pretty much 3rd tier "junk pens". I would not expect them to pull Esterbrook prices - but you never know. I collect Truepoints, and find they can shoot up for no understandable reason.

I wonder if they get a certain popularity from gun owners (thought I believe there was never any association with the Remington guns, except for the use of the name, which I am sure was intentional). Also, maybe the bidders on this one had no clue that under the 14K it had the words "Gold Plate" buried in the section.

Pretty celluloids do tend to bring in a better price.

They look to me like one of the numerous lower end Balance knock-offs you see from the 1930s.

The thing is that the cost I linked in my OP is not an uncommn price. I have seen them go for a little more. The gun connection is a thought hmm1.gif

I own a couple of low end Remingtons (What do you call the low end of a third tier pen line?), both piston fillers with large transparent sections in the middle. They are sort of pretty plastic but the appeal to me is that both are super smooth writers with medium nibs that fit my hand. They were also very inexpensive, less than the prices in a previous post. Both tend to be a little on the wet side with Noodler's Red or Nikita but they also hold a lot of ink. I consider them almost ideal for heavy grading/marking sessions when hand fatigue could be a problem. I have other pens that are nicer on the eye but very few that are as much fun to write with.

Every day is a chance to reduce my level of ignorance.

Now I LIKE that thumbup.gif
