Well, you guys knew this was coming ....
I am relatively new to the board ... and I have to do it .... give a shout out to all my neighboring Californians out there ...
I am in Los Angeles,
and I figured with so many people posting... it would be nice to see who my fellow fountain pen connoisseur's were out here in California ...
If you are from California ... or anywhere west coast ... give a shout out ....
After all, how many states can claim to have a Governor who is a bodybuilder/actor/politician ?

hi from Marin
Just a way of shouting to the top of the lungs in your local apartment/home so that your neighbors of the respective 5 blocks around you can hear
(lol...just kidding...)
I had to term it "shout out" and not just saying hello .... because hey .... after all we are unique ... we are Californians ... we ride with THE TOP DOWN !! ..
It's just a way of saying hi ... and letting your fellow pen collectors know that you are their neighbor ...
I think if we can get a lot of people from the neighboring areas together, it might be fun to discuss any pen related info/events/shows which relates to the
approx. area we are all in
Thanks again ...

Well yeah, I guess I meant when he was ONLY drinking and being weird on the strip...I read an article in Rolling Stone once...apparently he'd come in and drink in the afternoons and they would try to get him to leave and he wouldn't.
When I am back in LA, what hits me so strongly is the smell of the plants, the soil - it's so different than the middest, of course, a whole different ecology. Even in car-packed old LA, the earth gets through to your senses.
I was impressed in 2001 by how much less smoggy LA was. I went to the Griffith Observatory at dusk and could actually see the city beneath. Amazing to those of us who grew up in the 60s and 70s. On a clear day you can see...wait, what's a clear day?

LA's changed, its a lot better than it was a while back. I travel to San Gabriel almost monthly, have a little house that is jointly owned by family.
and yes, its the smell of the city as well as the humidity, there's something there, unlike the sandy dry vegas.

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to say thanks to all the californians at heart for taking the time to give a big shout out

I am hoping that more of our neighbors on this board will eventually trickle down here to this thread
I think if we can get quite a few people here - and since we are from the same state - it would be nice to talk about any fountain pen events, etc...
that might be coming up
I see a lot of events taking place, but most of them are in the east coast .... so I hope we will be able to pinpoint more activities going on near us ....
Thanks again, and you guys are great !!!

If anyone is close swing by Peter's Cafe around noon and we can chat pens. (That is noon Saturday May 3, 2008). I'm meeting another FPN member to talk 51 repairs. Feel free to join us.
Peter's Cafe is on the corner of El Camino and Millbrae Ave just a few blocks off 101.

Well ... I figured I would mention my latest experience here ... since it does pertain to those living in So Cal
I am sure that most people already know about Flax Pen and Paper in Westwood, but if not ....
I recently had a pen that was not doing too great when it came to flow ...
I was recommended on this board to try Aurora Black Ink - as it is one of the thickest inks out there - and tends to well ... give more flow to any pen that
writes as dry as the desert
I tried looking all over Los Angeles (did not want to order online ... as it said shipping would take a few days ... and I wanted immediate results ... )
Finally, one of my friends here recommended this store ... they just about have everything and anything
I did not know it ... but this is supposed to be THE hallmark store when it comes to fountain pen stuff
Beware ... they are expensive ... but if you have something in mind you cannot find somewhere else - this store is your best bet
They are on Gayley avenue just 3 minutes from UCLA
Just thought I would mention it ... the people in the store were really nice, and I indeed got the ink that gave my pen a refreshing wet flow !!!
Also to the Californians new to this thread who replied ... welcome to the club !!!

I never saw it. I read Anton LaVey's
The Satanic Witch out of curiosity, and it was hilarious!
When I worked at KFRC (when it was still on Bush Street), one of the reps from the CoS came to the station for an interview about backmasking (remember THAT controversy?!), and it was hard to take the guy seriously -- and I was young and impressionable. Heh.
