Full Version: Dayton Hamvention Pen Meet-up

This came up half-jokingly in a Chatter topic, but there really are a fair number of hams around here. Anyone care to meet-up for dinner and drinks and some good old fashioned pen-talk?

My notes have the show hours as:
Friday, 8-6
Saturday, 8-5
Sunday, 8-1
(all times local, Eastern time)

Most folks want to hit the road Sunday right after the grand prize is drawn, and many guys and gals don't make it for Friday festivities....but then again I'm not sure when most of the club meetings and dinners are.

Anyway...anyone going to Dayton? If so, want to try and hookup with other FPN'ers and talk about our "other" hobby? (Might be nice to break up 3 straight days of radio talk...lol.)

KingJoe,

I will be there along with 30,000 of my closest friends. I only live 30 minutes away so I am somewhat flexible on scheduling. I worked as volunteer staff for about five years but now just go when I feel like it. However, I may miss much or all of Saturday this year due to another obligation. I will be there on Friday with incoming family members but will certainly have time to visit and talk FPs! I'll ask around locally to see if there will be any sag spots. For many years our local club had prime spaces in the flea market (just outside the rear arena entrance) where you could get out of the sun and have a sandwich and cold drink. We were visible from just about anywhere in the flea market because of a very tall stack of Coors cases affixed with the GEARVAKf flag and antenna. People still talk about not getting lost because of the "Coors Tower".

If you've been there before you know there are a few places to meet and/or grab lunch inside. If all else fails, we could simply meet up in the arena seating. I am not opposed to getting together for dinner on Saturday at an area restaurant either, provided I get back in town in time.

Probably the best thing to do is to see if there how many people are interested in meeting up and find out if they have any must-attend activities or forums. Otherwise, we can simply pick a time and see who can make it.

Hmm....either there aren't a lot of ham FPN'ers going to Dayton, or they don't make it this far down the board. I know they're out there, though, somewhere! unsure.gif

With fuel and flight prices so high,i can't afford to go anywhere.Add the hotel, food etc prices and i could buy a new Kenwood TS2000 for what a trip to Dayton would cost. I do wish i could go someday though.

But i did find some new gear: An Icom 02-03-04AT to "almost" finalise my collection. Now i need the 12AT.

Do you think a post in Chatter would be more productive?

It will be interesting to see the attendance this year. Overall, hamfests have shrunk a little in recent years. An exception is the Orlando show.

I agree on the Icoms. They were nearly unbreakable; sort of the Parker "51"s of HTs. I had a pair of 2ATs for a while because I had misplaced one. rolleyes.gif I probably still have some battery packs/holders somewhere in the garage.
