I meant to post a picture of this pen when I came across it and the topic has lost a little urgency since the pen sold (for $350, if I remember correctly) on eBay a couple of weeks back.

I've seen some Equipoise style pens with clips mounted around the middle of the cap but this looks to be a Gold Seal or Deco Band.

Is it an after-market modification? It appears to be pretty well done if it is a repair. The clip itself does not appear at all familiar.

I saw that pen as well.

My opinion is that sometime the clip broke and probably the repairman wasn't able to remove the inner cap, or maybe he just hadn't the correct one (the pen was in Italy when sold) and so has done this job...

This was clearly not done by Wahl and is aftermarket for one reason or another. Often these modification were done to cover damage of some kind. A poster from France reported in another forum having seen this pen at a show in france some time back. I kind of like it, but there is no question it is an aftermarket job.
