I got a package of paper samples in today, various Strathmore and Mohawk papers in #24 weights and either cream or ivory color which I will be reviewing shortly.

This paper has an absolutely plate smooth finish, very slick feeling and super smooth to write on - no tooth at all. As you can see in the attached scans, there is no feathering that I can see. The letters are quite crisp and clean despite my best efforts to the contrary. As with the other papers I've review recently, I used the three inks that I have on hand with both fine and medium nibs and found the paper wonderfully nice to write on with both nibs. Compared to 'regular' laser printer paper, this paper responds to a medium nib quite well - not too wide of a line. There is no bleed through at all, even in the thickest parts of these lines - I can only tell the other side of the paper was used if I hold it up to the light. This paper has a watermark which reads "Strathmore Writing %25 Cotton" in two lines. To the touch, this paper does not feel much heavier than #20 copier paper, but I can feel a small difference when I hold one sheet of each in each hand.

This is very nice paper for everyday writing, and would make great journal or pad paper. I'm considering getting some of this to have lines printed on and then bound into pads - nice stuff!

EDIT: I looked up the specs on this paper and found that it is a carbon neutral product for those interested...

Thanks for the review. I received my Strathmore Writing Sample book last night. I use Strathmore Writing Laid Soft Gray for my every day paper. I really like it. Because it is laid it has a little texture. Sounds like to woven is smoother. One of the reasons I like most of the Strathmore I have tried is it does not bloat like HP 32# and more so Levenger which bloats the line at least a full pen with size, forcing me to write larger. I just padded some. I couldn't believe it, 50 cents a pad at Kinkos. What a deal. JD

There is virtually no texture at all with this paper - it's smooth like glass smile.gif And yes, that 50 cent/pad deal is awesome. You can download line templates (and grids for that matter) from various places on the 'net and have Kinkos print that on the paper before padding too, if you want that sort of thing.

I've used this paper in the past, and liked it. I also like Strathmore Elements.

I'm glad I found this post. I just ordered my samples. If I like the Strathmore Writing white, they have that at Amazon eligible for free shipping with Prime.

Stop in at any Xpedx (or similar) store, and you will find a pile of them, along with sample books of a vast variety of commercial papers.

I broke open my samples tonight and wrote my parents a letter on the wove Natural White. Oh my, I think I may be in love. I thought I might like the ivory best, but it's a bit yellow for my taste. The soft white is nice, too, but the natural takes the cake for me. It looked great under my Purple Martin written with a cursive italic nib.

On your collective recommendations I ordered a ream of it tonight, in the Ivory.

I have the sample books of the various Strathmore Writing and Script papers and the ...
let me look ... Mowawk Superfine but I haven't tested it yet.

Since I found the ream for under 10.00 and the shipping also under 10.00 I figured
I couldn't lose and didn't want to lose out.
