The next meeting of the Philadelphia Pen Collectors Group will be held from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Cira Centre, located at 2929 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104 in Suite 600 (directions on the club website).

The scheduled speaker is John Roede, collector (with family ties to the development of Parker's aerometric 51 and original 61) and published author on fountain pen history, who will speak on the history of Philadelphia's Franklin Pen Co and the families that turned it into a minor institution.

We are looking forward to seeing both our present pen friends and as many of our new members as possible!

Folks are always encouraged to bring their pens, ink & ephemera for show and tell, and also to buy/sell.

No dues, but parking isn't free. The building is attached to the train station if you're coming by public transportation.

Cira Centre,
2929 Arch Street Suite 600
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Please RSVP to Alan Blacker (blackeraj@hotmail.com) or to me (tlevien@philadelphiapens.com)

Since it's a secure building, it's important you let us know if you are coming so the security desk will have your name in advance. You'll need photo ID with you.

Regards,
Tom

PS; let us know what you think of the new website.

I plan to go. If anyone wants to ride down from the Harrisburg area, drop me a line. It costs $20 to get your car out of the parking garage there, so pooling makes sense.

Tom,

The website is great. It's nice to go to one site locally oriented but with plenty of links to the outside world.

I must say, I had no idea that the Philly Pen Collectors have a sailboat (Club Photo Album).

How do you manage that without dues?

Fred

There is also a Drexel university parking lot around the corner that I paid less than $20 but I had to walk through the rain thumbup.gif

Just a word of advice that the Dad Vail Regatta takes place on the 10th.
There will be a lot of traffic in Phila. Make extra time.

Can anyone tell me what I missed?

There are some pictures of the meeting in the photo album on the website. John Roede gave a great presentation on the Franklin Pen Company of Philadelphia. His research included a lot of information on the families involved including some gathered from interviews of surviving descendents. John brought along examples of Franklin pens from various periods of the company's history including eyedropper, plunger and lever filling pens.

Afterwards there was plenty of show & tell with plenty of both vintage and modern pens to play with. With nearly 20 people in attendance the conference table was full but the room was still comfortable.

Sorry I missed this one Tom!
I went to the March meeting, and it was as good as this one seemed.

A show-n-tell meeting with a packed conference room!

Looking forward to my next club meeting.
