~~].Hello there!.[~~

Here's a quick review of some notebooks I tried from Muji. Global note : 10/10 !!! Here are some scans, so that you can judge by yourself. These notebooks are very thin, which I like, and feature lined pages. They exist as well in "kraft" color if you prefer, but the dark blue cover suited me better.

Here are the three sizes in which I purchased them. A smaller size exists, but it was too small for me. (The biggest I bought was A4, the two others are A5 and B5 I think...)

Here's a picture of the back of the middle size one:

But the best part of them is the paper...completely FP friendly! An outstanding quality... Judge by yourself smile.gif But please forgive my handwritting. I was just having some fun with my new flexible dip pen tongue.gif But I hope you'll be able to read!

So here are some random words. written on the smallest notebook with my VP 0.6 Binder Stub. The black ink is Pilot Black cartridge, and the blue is PR Midnight Blues.
Don't mind the sentences (some of them are in french as well...)

Finally, a quick handwritten review on the A4 size!

And the back of the page on which was written the handwritten review:

All right, I hope you enjoyed my little review. I'm sorry for the scans, but I don't own a decent DSLR to make decent pictures. If you you want more informations on these, feel free to ask!

Oh and yes...the best thing...The biggest size (A4) only costs 2.5 euros, and the smaller size are even cheaper smile.gif

Have a nice day!
Shinichiro.

Edited to add: Sorry for the scan of the handwritten review...the image is not straight and the right side is missing sometimes...Also... the title is in french... but it just means... "Writing with a dip pen : First Volume".

Thanks for the review!

I will definitely keep my eyes open for this brand. Can't wait to try one!

Thanks for your review, now I know which one to buy when I go there next time. I bought spiral bound one with semi-transparent plastic cover. It's sort of squared-ruled by dots and looks really nice. However, the quality of the paper was mediocre. They have many different notebooks but I was afraid of trying another. Will look for this one when I go back to Japan next year smile.gif

Is there a supplier of these in the U.S.? I'm guessing not, but it was worth asking smile.gif.

Maybe taylorintherockies will sell these on ebay...? wink.gif

Interesting Shinichiro, thanks. There used to be a Muji shop near me, which unfortunately closed down. I never thought to try one of their notebooks. I've got some of their nail-clippers though. biggrin.gif

Yah I was impressed by these notebooks too, although I don't use notebooks all that much. I've found that Muji clothes, however, fall apart pretty quickly.

cheers

There is a Muji store in New York City that sells these notebooks.

you can also get them online from England here but shipping to the us seems a bit pricey (especially with our bad exchange rate)

We have a Muji shop in Birmingham, England, a short train ride from where I live, and I've used their various books before. I like the A5 wire bound one with the fold-over kraft cover and 'moleskine' style elastic strap.

They're good books but not top quality - they're intended to be utilitarian, and they are - they are also not all cheap!

Nice review Shinichiro, many thanks!

I have one Muji notebook which I use for my nova patrolling log. The paper is actually quite pleasant to write on, and the covers are in the same ballpark as the Moleskine Cahiers. A good general-purpose exercise book/jotting pad IMO. I got mine in the Muji shop in Kensington last October for the princely sum of 75p ($1.50). I found out about the Muji brand from this gentleman who lives in Manhattan: http://noimpactman.typepad.com/

Best wishes

Actually, I quite like your handwriting. Looks very artistic. Great for writing greeting cards or something.

One US supplier is the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan. I suppose you could also buy them at the museum if you happen to go there.

The location of Muji in NYC is 455 Broadway, smack in the middle of Soho. I visited the store last week and picked up a package of 3 notebooks. They are perfectly acceptable and lightweight so they are great. The paper is made from recycled goods and is not as smooth as Rhodia or Clairefontaine. This is not a bad quality, just a different one. It's like writing with an Aurora nib as opposed to any other nib. The Aurora nib has a certain feedback which is not bad, it's just different.
The store is fun to visit and has all sorts of things to tempt the shopper. It is very clean, well organized and spacious. The package of 3 notebooks was less than $3.00.
