Today I received an Ariel Kullock Parker 51 Fantasy fully clear demonstrator with an aerometric filler. Am I just confused or ???
I can fill the pen but pushing the rod onm top does not empty it again. How am i supposed to change ink colors or flush it clean??
What is it I do not understand?

'Rod'?

Parker '51' aeros do not fill with a 'rod'. '51' aeros fill by pressing against a ribbed pressure-bar to deflate the ink-sac.

I'm assuming you mean the pressure bar that you use to fill the pen? When the pen is full, you should get a good squirt of ink on the first press holding the nib downwards, then less and less will come out as you keep pressing the bar. 51s dont give up their ink easily, and they aren't a pen very well suited for changing inks frequently. By that I mean writing a page or two then clearing the pen and changing inks.

To really flush it you just immerse the nib in water and keep pressing the bar until the pen expels clear water. It can take a while. After that either rest the nib in some paper towels or snap it with your wrist till all the waters out. If you're patient its not a bad idea to let it air dry a bit after that so you don't get any water in your ink, but its not absolutely necessary.

When I clean my 51s, I flush them with water until there's no more ink, then I wrap the nib end with a paper towel or wc paper and shake it like a thermometer; be careful, a 51 can go through a wet piece of paper.

Perhaps the original poster meant vacumatic and simply mistyped. I believe that the same advice to use water and be very patient applies equally to vacs and aerometrics, though.

OP, what are your general impressions of the pen? I've been eyeing the Kullock 51s for a while now...

I am waiting for mine - it must be in the air coming from Ariel. They are a pleasure to deal with and I will be using mine (only because its inexpenxively replaceable). And it sems to be a very different item. I'm getting the vacu of course ;-)

If it is indeed a vac fill, surprisingly little ink will squirt from the pen after you fill it. But this is normal. This took me by surprise when I got my first 51 Vac. Vacs are a bear to flush & empty!
