I wanted to buy some really good paper for my correspondence, I had a look on the internet and I have just ordered some Verge de France Writing Paper, simply because it was the most expensive paper that www.papernation.co.uk offered and I wanted the best.

Has anyone used Verge de France Writing Paper for there correspondence and just how good is it?, has anyone tried it and know of a better paper? and finally does anyone know the diffrence between Verge de France Writing Paper and Velin de France Writing Paper, thay are both made by G.Lalo, the french paper maker but the Velin de France Writing Paper is slightly cheaper.

I am looking forward to reading your feedback

Thanks alot

Regards
James

I enjoy using the Verge de France very much for special letters. It has some texture to it so it is not an ultra-smooth write. But it takes FP inks beautifully - no feathering, bleeding, or the pooling. I've used everything from an XXXF on it to a M-B nib. The only nib I can't use comfortably on this paper is a flexible nib. For the sheer quality and feedback from the paper, I think it's a great choice.

thanks alot, I use a lamy accent brilliant which has a 14kt gold nib, fairly flexible, but I will see how it turns out.

Verge de France is "laid" texture paper - you'll see horizontal lines across the page. Laid paper is my standard, and the G. Lalo is particularly nice. For an ultra-smooth experience, the Velin will be perfect.

I think laid paper has more character and looks far nicer, but you'll have two good choices, regardless. smile.gif

I used Verge de France for many years. I only quit using it because I write so many letters and now we are both retired. I had choose a less expensive paper or curtail my writing. It really is wonderful paper and all my pens liked it.

grumble grumble - apparently the Velin isn't sold here in the US.

For those that like or want to try this paper (Verge de France) but are balking at the price,
how would 40% off the usual going rate "grab ya"?

Check out this thread I posted about a pretty good deal on VdF.
