Full Version: M805 skipping problem

I purchased my Pelikan M805 in Chicago towards the end of 2006. The pen behaved normally for roughly 10 months, when it started skipping and then leaking. It was shipped to Pelikan in New York where it apparently received a new barrel. So the leaking is over, but there’s a lurking problem. The ink flow seems smooth and convenient when it’s newly filled (with Pelikan black ink), but after four or five pages of writing it begins to dry out and the nib drags a bit; there’s even some skipping, even though the barrel is at least half filled.

What is then the problem? Is it the medium nib, or the ink flow system, or something else?

Have you taken out the nib and given a rinse and maybe a soak? It might have some ink dried in the feed.

An ultrasonic bath could also help.

I had the same thing happen to an old Waterman of mine after I'd syringe filled it too many times (supposedly, dipping the nib to draw in the ink helps lubricate the feed). I soaked it for a day in a water/ammonia solution, then forced water through the feed with a baby-snot remover.

It remains my smoothest writing pen.
