Hi Everyone,

I have two Cross Townsend FPs, in that dark green/black striped pattern (looks fantastic, but don't know the 'official' name for the color), and both originally had medium nibs. I swapped out one for an extra-fine, and just tested it. The lines are the same width! headsmack.gif

I must not be taking something into account. The only difference between the two is that the XF gives a more tactile feedback; you can really feel the paper you write on, while the M is more of a glider.

Thoughts? embarrassed_smile.gif

Thanks all,
ScottT

I have Townsends in XF, fine and medium and they are all distinctly different. Maybe you got a bad nib.

My Townsend (same green / black finish) was advertised as a Fine, yet arrived stamped as a Medium ... yet is quite a narrow medium -- almost a fine.

Something must be wrong. I have five Townsends - XF, F, M, BB, and OM (oblique medium). They are all distinctively different. The XF is quite fine allowing me write really small - comes in handy for post cards. Also, my XF is very smooth. Was your nib swap done with Cross or a dealer? Either way, I think I'd see about another swap.

Thank you everyone for your fast responses!

Matt, I think you may be right and am in the process of swapping it out, again.

Russ, do you know what the color is actually called? Just curious. With my two, the M and XF literally put out the same line.

Judybug, the nib swapout has always been through Cross. I originally had both pens in M, then swapped one of the Ms out for a F. Didn't notice much of a difference, swapped the F out for an XF (as suggested by the nice people at Cross). Tried the XF, NO line width difference, just more feedback. I'm a small writer myself (small handwriting, though not very tall either smile.gif ) so I am glad to hear the XFs are really supposed to be quite fine.

I wanted to see what Cross can do to fix this before I sent them off to Mr. Binder. The wait will be annoying however, but that can't be helped.

Thanks again everyone, I shall keep you posted.
