Full Version: lots of ink on nib and in cap

I have a esti J with the original sac. Seems very soft so I put it all back together and filled it up. Writes nicely. But I seem to have a slow leak. There is ink on the nib, around the end of the section where the nib screws in, and in the cap.

What does this indicate? Leak in the old sac? Or problem with the cap?

Many thanks!

I would check that the nib is screwed snugly into the section and then, if the problem persists, replace the sac as there may be a small hole or its adhesion to the section may be incomplete.

I'm having similar problems with an LJ. The sac is in fine shape, tested with water and suction, I'd change it but feel like it would be a waste. I even re-brushed the top of mouth of the sac with shallac. The nib is in tight, all looks kosher. Yet within a day of using, the pen standing straight in a holder, the section is wet with ink. Wassup with dat?

Falika - That's a good question as I would be scratching my head also. Maybe take this question to the Repairs forum and see what you get.

Is the section cracked? There can sometimes be a hairline crack that doesn't show up unless you really look.

Doesn't seem to be any hairline cracks on mine. It's funny, I'm kind of using two LJs at once as my primary pens these days. One I got from the marketplace and which, completely coincidentally, came from my home town NJ. This pen is like a dream pen. The LJ is perfect size for my hand, and I'm more than happy with the NOS 9550 I've got in it. The other is an Icicle I got on ebay. I've got the 9128 I was really looking forward to trying out, and which I'm also quite happy with. The pen writes great as long as I don't travel with it and prepared to give it a good wiping before use as -- so I've been complaining -- it's constantly leaking ink from the bottom of the nib onto the section. Sac seems tight, has been reshallac'd, full tested. But pen will not stop leaking. Not terribly, mind you, just enough to be annoying.
