Inquiring minds want to know..... I keep thinking "Phillies" like the baseball team.
Shangas
The Waterman Phileas is named after Phileas Fogg, of "Around the World in 80 Days" by Jules Verne.

It's spelt 'Phileas', it's pronounced "feel-eeh-us".

Always thought of it as Philly-A$$

Greg
Pronounced as Shangas describes, with the weight on the first syllable, ie FEElie-us.

Fogg is a little simpler!

Fill - Ay (As in hay) - ass (As in ass) ?

Thank you all!

I don't put any "ass" in my pronunciation. Fill E Us. But to each their own.

Fil-lay-ahs. Of course, we Canadians have this terrible habit of rounding our vowels, such that "at" and "out" fail to rhyme. wink.gif

I always read it as fill-LAY-us. Though since my new pen is actually a Kultur, I guess I should go with that instead.

Also I have apparently been mistaken about the name of the character from Around the World in 80 Days for the past 15 years or so. I could have sworn his name was Phineas, not Phileas.

This is more like it but the last sound is not exactly "ass" (French is my main language wink.gif )

For the first two syllabes: Fill - Lay

for the last one I guess the simplest way to have let you hear it wink.gif

Doh I missed your reply before adding mine smile.gif Yes Fill and Lay the third one is about midway between "us" and "ass" smile.gif

You may have to say it with an English accent as two of the more famous actors to play the part were David Niven and Pierce Brosnan.
