... accidentally twisted the piston knob on your Pelikan and sent ink everywhere?

I just received a Pelikan pen in today's post (the M400 White Tortoise). So far I like the way it fills and writes, would prefer it to be weightier (for superficial and probably silly reasons: it feels more "plastic-y" than I expected) and am terrified that I'm going to release the piston by mistake. It's not that I think it would happen while I'm writing; more that I could see myself fiddling with it absentmindedly and turning it without realising.

Has anyone done this or am I worrying about nothing?

No (at least not yet.)

And I hope not to, the blind cap (filler) should tighten at the end a bit so it shouldn't be easy to do accidently

No, but there is an old Three Stooges film in which I think Larry squirts a pen full of ink in Moe's face. Classic. lticaptd.gif

The only time this happened was when I had a Stypen Up! at the same time. The Up! is a little pen that has a retractable nib (with cap, so not really very practical, IMO) and one turned a knob at the base (just like the piston knob) to extend the nib. I have a habit of using several pens in a session and after using that little pen for a few days I picked up an M200 and started to "extend" the nib that didn't extend. I didn't make too much of a mess - a couple of drops on the page, but it was still a silly mistake.

I think as long as you aren't using a twist-base model like the Up, you'll be pretty sure not to make a similar mistake. For me it was switching among models with features that looked alike but did very different things.

I have heard of one other person doing this - I don't know what her excuse was. smile.gif

That was several years ago and I think it's easy to make the piston knob action second-nature such that these things won't happen. I'd say - don't use an Up! in the same session as a piston-filler. smile.gif

Not I, but I just in the nick of time stopped someone from twisting the mechanism while looking at my brand new Toledo (back in the day) and filling the cap with black ink.

I imagine it'll happen eventually. I was given a Lamy 2000 recently, and while at work, I guess I wasn't paying attention, I started to twist the butt-end of it and had a "WTH am I doing?!" moment.

Nope, but I've accidentally raised the lever of a Sheaffer flat-top because I thought all the ink had dried up... rolleyes.gif

Not on a Pelikan, but I have done it on a Stipula. Stupid, too, because that pen has a larger clear window than my Pels do. sad.gif

No, but I son had a friend of his do it with my son's M400 while "looking at it" at college.

Sounds like I just need to keep it away from the curious. Love that Stooges image though!

I was showing my M405 to someone right before a test in school and he was fiddling with it. He wound up emptying the whole load of black Ink all over his test right as the Proctors said BEGIN. yikes.gif
The look on his face was precious to say the least.
