Full Version: keep new or vintage?

Hello fellow pen heads, As you can see, this is my first post. I have a Pelikan 800 that I bought over 20 years ago. It has been my daily writer for most of that time. The plunger has jammed. Chartpak will take care of the problem by replacing the pen. But, the new pen does not have the gold dot on the plunger filler. Also, my old pen has the cap stamped with "Made in West Germany". I have resigned myself to the fact that I will have to let them replace the body of he pen, in order to get it working again. My question: Should I ask them to return my vintage cap, even though it will not be a proper historical match for the pen body, or should I just go ahead and accept a completly new pen that matches the way it should?

What about sending your pen to an independent repair person to be fixed and returned, instead of replaced?

You know, there is a potential alternative. Take your Pelikan to a pen meister who can fix the plunger without changing the body. It will cost you of course, but it might be worth it. Repairs usually aren't that expensive - of course you have to see whether somebody else can fix it the way you want. But I'd try that route first - otherwise, you are getting back a different pen, not the one you sent in.

Just a suggestion!
