I had two Lamy 2000s, a Broad and an Extra Fine nib. I gave the pen with the EF nib away (why!? why!? why!? - oh, because my friend REALLY liked it) and now I want to replace the B with another EF. I contacted Lamy USA and it's $50 for the nib plus $7.50 S&H plus $50 for them to replace the nib. Yowza! Anyone know where else I might look for a Lamy 2000 EF nib? And, how easy would it be for a non-mechanical-type person (me) to replace the nib once I find one? Thanks.

I think that info may be a bit muddled, kudzu - last time I checked, Lamy USA will sell you a new nib and section for the 2000 series for about $55 or $60 - you could sell your B section here to offset at least part of that cost. Or, I see you have a trade option posted too. I don't think Lamy USA sells the nib alone, just nib/section. The nib just pops out anyway from the section - if you could buy a nib alone, it would just be a case of pressing out the old one and pressing in the new one with your (inky) fingers.

Thanks, J English - that means the section is friction fit, right? I would just pull out the old section and nib, push in a new one?

The "section" is the front end of the pen that you hold onto while you're writing; the silver part that the nib and feed are in. The section screws into the barrel.

It is quite easy to get the nib out of the section, section unsrewed. But if Lamy USA sells the nib with the section, don't bother with getting the nib out.

I had a nib changed from Lamy Germany. They had a "service fee" of 25 Euros that got me a new cap and a nib change. Service fee including the parts made it a good deal in the end.

But in the USA it might be better to buy a nib/section and sell the other one.

Suggestion - write to Lamy USA and ask them if they could swap the nib or if there is any cheaper way to do it?

But the way to go is probably to see if someone wants to buy your broad section for say $40-50 and then let Lamy charge you for the new section and nib.

And yes, the section just unscrews and then the new one screws on. Be careful not to lose the metal ring that has the "ears" that stick out, that's the only trick. Be careful not to over-tighten, though.

By the by, what a good friend you are to give someone a Lamy 2000 EF! That's quite a nice gift.

Thanks for the useful suggestions and information everyone. Yes, the EF Lamy 2000 is with a very good friend now. Now I'll have to go visit my pen from time to time. I sure miss it.
