Full Version: Philieas Extra-Fine

I just bought a Philieas EF from the well-known ebay seller in France. It's being shipped to my dad in Canada.

Unfortunately, I just realized that the EF may be a little too thin(?) for everyday use...? Do any of you use it for everyday writing (as opposed to, for example, minute script for tables) and are you happy with it?

Hopefully, I can get an answer and if need be, plead with the seller to substitute an F instead of the EF.

Wow! I didn't know they made extra-fine nibs for Phileas. I have three Phileases - all with medium nibs. A Phileas medium writes a wider line than medium nibs in most other brands. At least this has been my experience. Judging by that, I'd be surprised if a Phileas extra-fine is "too thin." It's probably closer to a fine in other brands. But, of course, I don't know for sure. I hope someone will answer your post who actually has a Phileas extra-fine. Good luck! smile.gif

I have two Phileas pens and three nibs. The pens originally came with a fine and a medium respectively, but I found even the fine (although smooth) was a little too broad for my tastes.

My tastes, generally, are for the XF and F nibs in Parker 51's, and the XF and (thanks to Mr. Binder) the XXF nibs for my Pelikans. I also like the Hero 100 fine nibs. In modern Parkers, the F nib in the new 45s are just a bit too wide for my writing style -- or lack thereof.

At any rate, I splurged and bought an XF nib for one of the Phileas pens from Mr. L. in France.

I've been very pleased with this new nib so far. It has a medium flow, and with PR's Copper Burst, PR's Black Magic Blue and Midnight Blues, and Noodler's Blue-Black the smoothness of the nib has been very evident. Line width is about on par with Mr. Binder's XXF or the standard Pelikan XF nibs, or maybe just a shade thinner.

I hope this helps. If it turns out that you don't like the nib, you could email me and we could swap for one of my thicker Phileas nibs.

Actually, in that passage, I mean apart from it writing as finely as my ballpoints, and some rollerballs, it has the added qualitative edge of a...fountain pen of course LOL!

may I ask where one can go to buy a Nib for the Phileas? I have a Phileas with a Med Nib and the Nib is bent, it still writes but I want to get another one just incase. As well I think I would like the F more than the M.

Also (and I know this a little random) but I need to find another cap for my pen also.

Thank you

This has been similar to my experience as well, Roger.

Just a great little pen with the XF nib.

I called Fountain Pen Hospital to order mine, but they directed me to Waterman. But, I can't find the number. It was in Janesville, WI. It cost me $30. That said, I bought it and some Noodlers' Swishmix Eternal Nile Ebony. That combination will make you love the cheapest paper, even a Moleskine! On good paper, you can write so small, too. Plan on a little maintenance, though. I love mine.

I've bought one (an extra-fine) from lewertowski on e-Bay. He has some in stock now but I would guess there is a limited supply.
