I have a vintage Patrician and would like some help with identifying the color . Is this moss agate ?
Thanks for your help
Nope....it's nacre,a.k.a.,black and pearl. Moss agate is a brown and green mix with black veining. nice pen!

John
Thanks John , I have a pen book and it only listed onyx, black, green , moss agate, and blue gold. Moss agate was the closest. I collect fountain pens for their aesthetic value (in other words I know little about them ) . This is a side collection for me (20-30 pens ) as I am very interested in old plastics . I am however going to put this pen up for sale on ebay as I understand it has value and should go to someone who really wants it . Is there any thing else I should know about this pen before I sell it ? Thankyou so much --regardsTom
Tom,
There are a couple of things that I see. First, the capband is chrome(or chrome plated)and the clip from what I can see is gold-filled. You'll probably get a question on that from a sharp-eyed buyer. Secondly, the pen has(what I would call)light
discoloration,i.e.,browning or ambering (due to sulphurous gases released from the deteriorating rubber sac and inner cap).
While this doesn't put it in the near mint category, the value of a Waterman Patrician is such that it won't harm it that much either. Patricians are pens that for vintage collectors rank high among must-haves(like mandarin yellow Duofolds). I have seen Patricians with far worse ambering than yours has go for anywhere between $500 and $900. That isn't to say ,however ,that yours would go for that much,or less,or more. Ebay prices are speculative, and buyers with a must-have attitude can affect the price considerably. Suffice it to say that the price will probably be in the hundreds of dollars. I would also suggest that if you have a camera and can take good pictures, that you submit pictures of the pen capped, uncapped, imprints, and any damage(chips, gouges, any parts missing)and put info of the damage in your description. I hope you do well in selling it.
Best regards,
John
