Dear Visconti Van Gogh Collectors,

Does anybody have both the Sandal and the Tortoise demonstrator Van Goghs? From having seen photos, as well as each one individually in shops (but never both together in the same shop), I get the impression that the colors are extremely similar. What would you say are the differences? If anybody has got photos of them next to each other, that would be excellent!

Also, recently I came across this: described as "Visconti Van Gogh Maxi Cappucino with Gold trim"

Is this an older, discontinued model or a brand new one?

Cappucino is a new one. NeoTiger did a pic of his collection last year and the sandal looked red to me.
NeoTiger
Yeah, I have the Tortoise Demonstrator in Maxi size and the Sandal Red in Mini size. The colours are very diffierent. The red is definitely red, with shades of mustard.

The Tortoise is clear with shades of brown.

Edit: The Cappucino does look quite similar to the Tortoise, but more solid colouring. I prefer the Tortoise, the translucence is very nice.

Interesting, I have seen the Sandal in person and it did not look red to me but more like amber. The Cappuccino looks like a darker, denser and colder brown. The gold hardware looks odd on this pen, I wonder how well it will do.

Here is photo that I took awhile back of part of my Visconti collection. The photo is small, but it might show the difference in colours between the Sandal and Tortoise.

The Sandal and Tortoise are both Midi size, and are shown third and fourth (from the right), respectively.

Oh my GOD.... Just give me a second to recover, okay?

You lucky-lucky girl, Good Lord! Thank you so much for that photo, it is exactly what I wanted and more. I can see the difference now between the Sandal and Tortoise.

Now what is the 5th pen from the right -- the Filigree overlay? Is it gold or silver overlay, I can't quite tell here?

Many thanks,

I am going to check out that cappacuino this friday at FPH pen show. I am also torn between this one and the tortoise shell. My reason for perhaps getting this the new color is because of the nib. At least it looks a bit different from the rest of the opera club/van gogh/wall st.

The top pen in this picture is a Visconti Van Gogh in Sandal (in midi size):

The fifth pen is a Visconti Rinascimento Vienna Solid Gold.* The pen is apparently crafted from solid gold and finished in black lacquer. The lacquer is then hand engraved to reveal the gold beneath.

For a closer view of the engraving, here's a photo from an eBay auction of the RB version of the same pen.

*The Visconti Rinascimento also came in Silver and Stardust Collections. Links to all the Rinascimento Collections (from Visconti's Web Site):
-- Visconti Rinascimento Solid Gold
-- Visconti Rinascimento Silver
-- Visconti Rinascimento Stardust

The Rinascimento Collections are now out of production but they pop-up on eBay from time to time. A few B&Ms may still carry them as well. I found both the Silver and Solid Gold Collections at Altman Luggage in NYC a few months ago.

So has anyone else ordered the new Van Gogh in either Cappaccino or Evergreen/pine green?

I am waiting for mine to come from Italy. They are not supposed to be ready until end of this month.

As a fan of silver fixtures, I'm not yet sold on the new gold coloring.

Ghostplane: I wasn't either, until I saw it in person! It looks quite exquisite! I will post pics when I get it.

I'd appreciate it. I sort of like the Evergreen, but that gold put me off. Almost every pen in my collection is silver or has silver trim.

I just got a tortoise demonstrator maxi size and it's stunning.
