Full Version: Nib compatibility

Hi all,

I'm gonna take the plunge and get a stub nib. From Binder's website, it appears that all Pelikan nibs are interchangeable. Am I reading that wrong? Is the m400 nib the same as an m600 nib? Obviously, the m800 is 18k instead of 14k, but do the nibs fit? Are they all the same length? I thought the nibs got bigger and longer as you went up.

Demystify me!

Hi Will,

Mr. Binder has a compatibility chart on his site. Not all Pelikan nibs will fit other models/sizes. Take a look at his chart.

http://richardspens.com/sales/newp_pel.htm#nibchart

That will explain what nib fits what pen. Good luck!

Edit: so the link doesn't work because of the way Mr. Binder has his site setup. You'll have to go to his site. Click on "Pens & Specialty nibs" -> New Pens -> Pelikan ->, then scroll a bit down and you'll see "nib interchangeability chart"

I'm not sure what's happening to you. The site is specifically designed so that if you enter an address like that, it will reconstruct the address and load itself correctly -- and in fact I just tested it to be sure, and it does load correctly with a modern browser. (I've tested it on Windows with the current versions of MSIE, Opera, Firefox, and Avant Browser; and on Macintosh with the current versions of Safari, Camino, Firefox, Opera, and OmniWeb.)

Hmm...yes I just checked. When I click the link it redirects to a main page. Then you have to click on continue to get to the nib page. Sorry. I didn't look closely enough. I actually find it frustrating that I have to click continue to go on to the right page, but that's a personal preference I think.

BTW, using Firefox for many years now. Before Firefox, I used Mozilla.

Hi Will. After getting any browser issue sorted out, it should be somewhat obvious that an 800 requires an 800 sized nib and only an 800 sized nib will do. Between SWMBO and I we have several 400 and 600 sized Pelikans and from time to time we swap nibs around on them. They are too small for an 800 though.

Mr Binder's page has tons of info. Similar pics and details can be found on John Mottishaw's page, http://nibs.com/PelikanNibsAvailableForCusto.htm

regards,
- Jan

You don't normally have to click through the "main" page. I put that page up when we go to a pen show, to let people know we ain't immediately available. We're back from Atlanta, and the site is back to normal. Clicking the link will take you directly to the target page.
