Just wondering if anyone has tried using a Kultur as an eyedropper.
Last night, on a lark, I filled the barrel of my clear Kultur with water to see if it would leak.
No leaks, and water flowed well from the nib when I tested it.
However, I'm still a bit squeamish about putting actual ink in it, with the potential ensuing disaster, not to mention cleaning bills.
Any success stories out there?

PJ, why not fill it with ink, and lay it on a plate overnight and see what happens? Either way, you, clothes, and furniture would be safe!

As long as there aren't any metal parts inside the barrel that would come in contact with the ink, like the Phileas, I don't see why not. A little bit of silicon grease on the section threads would be a good idea, to stop ink from seeping out. Often times, for me, it doesn't look like ink is seeping out of a pen, but after I write with it and get ink all over my hand, I realize that there is.

I've done it with my clear Kultur (using silicon grease on the threads) and it worked fine.

Just tried it with a transparent blue Kultur. Filled it with PR Lake Placid Blue, added silicone grease to the threads and have it sitting in a bowl to see what happens. Will let you know how I make out.

I've done it and it works. Just use plenty of silicone grease. See
this thread but read it all!

What is the difference between silicone grease and the 100% Silicone Sealant you would find at the hardware store?

Hi, I have ten Kulturs, all different colours, all eye-dropper filled with different Noodler's coloured inks. Not a single leak as yet. I didn't even grease the threads on the barrel. The screw thread is much finer than on the ubiquitous Platinum Preppy, and consequently seals much better.
In fact, the last one was filled this morning when Blue Ghost finally arrived from Swishers (excellent service BTW: I ordered online on 14th July, and it arrived today, exactly a week later, in Australia), for which I'd been saving the clear Kultur demonstrator. All good.
Go for your life!

The sealant sets to an almost solid gel, and should not be in the same room as a fountain pen (it's used for sealing around baths and the like to keep water out, or to make gaskets e.g. on cars). Silicone grease has the consistency of petroleum jelly (e.g. Vaseline) and stays that way.
Edit: minor clarification.

I've done this with three different Kulturs and they all work like a charm (though I've noticed these pens leak quicker from the nib if you don't carry them nib-up like all pens should...I was moving, so I found this out the hard way when many pens got flipped over and only one emptied...of course it was a Kultur full of Baystate Blue, but 99% cleaned up just fine). If you are looking for silicone grease, I've only found it at a Scuba Diving shop. I'm sure other places have it (and you could always order it from Tryphon), but that was the easiest for me locally. The sealant, on the other hand, can be found everywhere, but when it dries it expands somewhat (seems to, at least). It will make your pens very difficult to open, and it is supposed to be permanent(ish). This is the stuff aquariums are held together with

I have only had two other ED pens, both the free Preppies that come with some bottles of Noodler's. It is hard to beat free, but the Kulturs are better, even as EDs, than the Preppies. If I had the funds I would love to get three more Kulturs and convert them as well.

Woot! I went out at lunch to Home Depot. Found some there. Had to really search for it too. Guess I'll be busy tonight converting pens to EDs.

I really liked the way my transparent Kultur wrote---but I had a long cart in it, and noticed the ink was creeping forward toward the nib unit and coloring the inner workings of the unit. When I took out the cart to refill it, there was ink on the outside of the cart. I just got done soaking it clean.
Any suggestions? These pens would look great as eyedroppers....

Maybe the cartridge is not seating properly. When I change cartridges and push them in and give them a short twist.
Also, I did finally convert my clear Kultur to an eyedropper. It looks awesome! I filled it half way and left it on a plate with a paper towel overnight. They next day I positioned it so that the nib was someone pointing down. No leaks either time. Yay for silicone grease!
I'll post pictures when I get a chance.
