They will have you send the whole pen in to change the nib. I went through this when I purchased a pen with a nib that was too large. I offered to give them my CC number and have them just ship me a nib and I would return the larger one. No dice. Whole pen or nothing. I ended up ordering another nib from Pendemonium since they are user replaceable. Lesson learned for me. Next time I will order the darn pen from someone who has what I want in stock. The only reason that I did not this time and purchased it from my local B&M was because they told me "Don't worry about it. Pelikan will swap the nib out for free." They did not tell me that I had to ship my pen in and wait a while to get it back just to swap out a user replaceable nib! So, if you don't mind being without your pen for a week or so, they will swap it out for you.
Odd: a year or so ago I queried Chartpak about swapping my M1000 fine nib for an extra fine. They said they would be glad to do it. I sent them only the nib and got the replacement back within a few days. There was never a mention of sending in the entire pen. Chartpak must have initiated a new policy since then for some inexplicable reason.
Well, I suppose that I could have done that - I did not ask. Figured the pen wasn't of a lot of use to me without the nib. Writes a really super bold line that way.
