Full Version: How to exchange with Chartpak?

I received my first Pelikan today: an Amber m250! Only thing is that the nib is too wide for me. I've heard that I can exchange nibs with Chartpak, but how exactly do I do so? I'd like a fine nib probably.

You could call them at (413) 584-5446 or just mail the pen in with a note telling them what you want. Their website is at: http://www.chartpak.com

They will have you send the whole pen in to change the nib. I went through this when I purchased a pen with a nib that was too large. I offered to give them my CC number and have them just ship me a nib and I would return the larger one. No dice. Whole pen or nothing. I ended up ordering another nib from Pendemonium since they are user replaceable. Lesson learned for me. Next time I will order the darn pen from someone who has what I want in stock. The only reason that I did not this time and purchased it from my local B&M was because they told me "Don't worry about it. Pelikan will swap the nib out for free." They did not tell me that I had to ship my pen in and wait a while to get it back just to swap out a user replaceable nib! So, if you don't mind being without your pen for a week or so, they will swap it out for you.

The only upside to having to send your entire pen in? Chartpak is pretty fast. I just sent my 625 to have the nib replaced, I got it back within 2 weeks from the time I dropped it in the mail. Not bad if you ask me.

Odd: a year or so ago I queried Chartpak about swapping my M1000 fine nib for an extra fine. They said they would be glad to do it. I sent them only the nib and got the replacement back within a few days. There was never a mention of sending in the entire pen. Chartpak must have initiated a new policy since then for some inexplicable reason.

Well, I suppose that I could have done that - I did not ask. Figured the pen wasn't of a lot of use to me without the nib. Writes a really super bold line that way.

Send an email to info@chartpak.com requesting a copy of their Pelikan pen repair policy. I did so a few days ago via a link on their web page. Within 24 hours I received a reply with all of the necessary details.
