What about J. Herbin, is it really only noticeable from the bottle? Or can you smell it when writing? Certainly not off the page after writing, can you?

Does MB make their own scented inks? Or does J. Herbin make it for them?

Another brands I'm missing? Thanks! rolleyes.gif

I have not tried the J. Herbin scented inks. However, I have tried a rose scented ink from Mont Blanc. Sam Fiorello and her team at Pendemonium will scent any of the inks they sell. I have tried them and they do offer a pleasant writing experience w/o affecting the flow/performance of the ink. Because the scents are "water-based" (scented oils would wreak havoc on your pen and ink flow) they do not linger on the paper for very long. I do find the scents can have a calming effect when I am journaling.

Very nice, thanks!

The sad thing about scenting inks through Pendemonium is that once they run out, there will be no more. Apparently, the person who formulated the scents stopped making them a while ago. The choices keep dwindling. I was lucky enough to get a Waterman Violet scented with violet, a PR Black Cherry scented with black cherry, and a Duke black scented with delphinium (Pendemonium may still have that last one), plus a few others.

I also have some of the J Herbin scented inks, rose, violet, and lavender, and the 'man scented' one (kind of... sort of... an after shave scent), all except the violet were purchased from Pear Tree Pens. smile.gif The violet I bought from Pendemonium. Those, plus two from MB - Je t'aime and Season's Greetings (from a couple years back; I forget which year, though), are my scented inks.

biggrin.gif Yes, I do have a lot of them and enjoy writing with them very much. What has already been said is pretty much my experience as well: lovely scent when writing, no real scent on the paper, especially after the ink has dried. I also haven't noticed the scent lingering in the pens I've used the inks in, but I obviously can't say that would be true of all pens.

There's a company in Germany that has a LOT of scented inks that I want to try, but I haven't worked up the gumption to put out the effort it would take to order them. blush.gif Some of them sound wonderful.

My wife bought a bottle of scented ink from Victorian Trading Company. That scent will hang around in a pen literally for years. You can smell it as soon as you open the bottle; you can smell it on the paper through an envelope. Do not use it in a fountain pen!!!!!

I'll second Paddler's post. I used MB Season's Greetings brown (cinnamon scented) in my MB P145 and the smell remained even after flushing and switching to a different ink! In fact, the smell is still faintly discernible (months later). Unless you are sure you like your pen to smell of what ever it is, I suggest spraying a little cologne/perfume on the letter after you wrote it.

I didn't make myself quite clear about why this ink should not be used in a fountain pen. The lingering scent is the least of the problem. This ink will gum up the feed, the back of the nib, and the inside of a converter. To date I have not been able to find a solvent for it that does not also dissolve parts of the pen.

Paddler, that sounds as if the ink was one of those calligraphy inks meant only for dip pens. Sorry to hear about the results in the fp.

Paul (damien), it may depend on the pen. I have used MB's Season's Greetings in an old model Cross (Century I, not II) and I haven't noticed the scent lingering. That pen now has PR's Chocolat in it (and unfortunately, it's not scented). wink.gif
