Does anyone own any Antique writing boxes? I think they are the neatest contraptions in the world. My analogy is that they are the laptops of the 19th Century tongue.gif. If anyone one is an owner of one and would like to share their experiences or stories of how they came across their box that will be great!

I think smythsons are the only ones making modern writing boxes (and secretaires0 now. Except, they are bloody expensive!

There have been some threads recently about those - great analogy by the way - try searching for writing slope. I've been in the market for one to restore as I've heard they can be a bear to build from scratch. I've got the tools, but not the time, so I've been thinking of a restoration job.

I have one of recent manufacture which I call my analog laptop. My wife gave it to me for my 55th birthday. She got it at Haverty's furniture on sale. It was fairly reasonably priced, but the list price was ourageous. It is apparently discontinued, as I checked their website and found not a trace of it. It is the box in my avatar.

I bought one of these http://www.victoriantradingco.com/store/ca...s/3c/i2604.html and I love it. This is the best price I've seen for this as well.

This traveling desk belonged to may husband's great, great grandfather. It's from around 1860. I posted about it just a few days ago but here's the picture again.
