Full Version: Enjoying my new (to me) Grand Place

Yep it arrived and its much more impressive in person than in the photos I've seen. The swirls have luminosity, and depth as does the section and the blind cap.

The Oblique Broad is also interesting. Will post photos later.

*Ahem* -- post photos NOW!

I kid! Am looking forward to the photos and review (?) and handwriting sample. Congrats!

Initial photo. Having a hard time showing the depth of colour and play of light in the swirls. You can see the writing somewhat. The Broad is no broader than the M I have on my M250.

Nice looking pen...I wish they made those in M800 size. Ink looks nice too.

Another shot which I think shows the colour of the pen better.

Welcome to the Grand Place. This is my favorite pen, and the only one that I would chose over my Parker 51s.

Ah, the seduction of Pelikans...

Congrats!! Absolutely love my Grand Place! I changed the nib out for a Binder crisp italic. Mine will just have to drink Chocolat until my FPN brown gets here... sigh...

Very nice pens those. I noticed that your Galileo is a little less vibrant than mine, did you blend it with anything?

Cheers,
Sean

They are beautiful pens.

The second photo is not "pure" the first one is, the second photo is also "tweaked" to optimize the swirls rather than the ink... The pure FPN Galileo brown is a better match to the section colour.

(impure colour has some Polar Blue and Year of the Golden Pig in it, because I was too lazy to clean out my blend before topping up with more FPN Galileo.)

Whoa! Very pretty pen!

Little network glitch: That little spot of blue? Nice touch!

By far my favorite pen as well. One I refuse to ever sell. It was the 2nd pelikan I ever purchased. I've tried to capture the depth of the swirls and color as well, this is one pen that has to been seen to be believed.

That pen is SO beautiful wub.gif

One question is it possible to see ink level? Is there a hidden ink window? Is the body translucent when held against a light source?

Just in picture it looks stunning. If I ever see one in the flesh I'll have a hard time not buying it tongue.gif

Is the Grand Place a 2008 only pen?

Answering for the OP, there is no ink window, and although many of the other city series Pelikan 600's were translucent, this one isn't. It is a wonderful pen, though, and the lack of ink level monitoring doesn't stop me from keeping mine in rotation.

Thanks Hdoug...

And no its not a 2008 pen, its older and limited. But some are still around from time to time. You'll have to dig for them.

Never really noticed them before due to the smaller size than the 800s. I will have to check them out before passing judgement so soon. Thanks for the great photos and comments.
