Ive had this pen since I was around five or six. I think its an M800 but it has a different nib from all the pictures I saw. Instead of a complex design on the tip of the nib its has lines. Curious why exactly this is?
Once I can, I will post pictures but by my poor description, anyone have any ideas what this is?

xenO,
I think that we're going to need to see a picture of your pen to be of much use to you. Do you a digital camera, or even a decent cameraphone?

A photo may not be needed, if you can give us the length of the pen. Even then, it's likely a Pelikan 400 or 400NN based on your description of the nib and the era from which it's from.

I suppose that your pen nib looks like the one on the left.

This pic shows a Pelikan 400 in tortoise from around 1950 (on top) next to a modern Pelikan M400 (below). If your pen has a more rounded piston knob than the 400's, then it's a 400NN.
These pics are from Rick Conner's Penspotter website at

Hi,
All of the older Pelikan I have seen have some lines instead of the complex nib decoration.
How long is the uncapped pen? It might give us an idea what model it is.

Not exactly sure in what position to measure it, I suppose you measure it with the cap taken off and placed on the back of the pen and measurements dont start at the very back of the pen cap, but at the golden ring. If it is that way its 142MM.
The design is like the one on the left, except the Pelikan logo and the top part is gold, while the area up to around the dot and around the logo are ?silver?.
Basically its the design on the left but the coloring style on the right. It has a rounded tip to my belief.

I seen pictures of the 800 and they seem similar but since the nib was different I was thrown off, any idea why this is?

Hi,
All older Pelikans have a different nib than the newer ones.

Anything I should know about this Pelikan, such as special care or special ink?
Also any idea how much its worth? (If its a significant amount, not something you will carry around due to chances of losing it)

The Pel 800 is a workhorse of a pen. You wouldn't want to drop it or treat it roughly, but I carry mine in my pen case. I haven't worried about different inks either. I think that the piston filler in Pelikan pens is as reliable as they come.
The only thing that you might worry about is that you will never be able to spell the bird name correctly.

For monetary value, new Pelikan 800s retail for over $300, but are commonly available for $220. Used pens usually bring around $150, depending. Don't know if I'd be comfortable carrying that sort of cash value around in my pocket, but I'm willing to try

M800 is a great pen!
Best one that I have.
I've only known of 1 Pelikan that had any problems, and Pelikan fixed it free.
Congratulations!

Is it possible that your nib was replaced at some point?
