Here are a few recent versions of my most popular fountain pen in ebonite.

They are both based on the same hardware design.

This one is a red/black ebonite on a gold titanium design.

This one is a green/black ebonite on a rhodium design.

Both pens feature a bladder styled converter with a steel nib. I weighed them today and they are both are approx. 40 grams, with a full hand feel.

These are some of my first pens in ebonite, but I love the way they look and finish.

Very nice!

Since this is a thread conducive to this:

1) how'd you find ebonite to work as a new-to-ebonite person?
2) how far does one go with the sandpaper on ebonite?

I found the ebonite simple to drill and I was able to use conventional turning tools with no problem, I use a skew for all my pen work.

I use the same wet sanding process on ebonite as I do with acrylics and celluloids, no issues.

Thanks Tom,

I appreciate your kind thoughts wink.gif

To 12,000 grit? Ebonite just doesn't seem as shiny as acrylic. (I haven't worked celluloid. Yet.)

I do wet sand out to 12, 000 MM and then use a paste scratch remover....it leaves a very nice finish

Congratulations Jim, very nice work !
I also love to work in Ebonite, easy to machine & after sanding & polishing such a beautiful result.
By the way, did you make the pocket clip yourself or was it bought?
I'm searching for a source to buy the hardware & would appreciate if you could give me some addresses, at least in case your buying these.
Keep up the great work!
