Full Version: Advice regarding Century II Blue lacquer FP

Hey there,

After a lot of deliberating and cogitating over what to pick up (including some impromptu handwriting analysis from a man in Harrods), I've decided that I'd like to buy a Century II fountain pen with sterling silver cap and blue lacquer body. One of these in case you're wondering. I'm ordering the fine nib as it seems to make my handwriting look neater.

I do a reasonable amount of writing every day - I'm a psychologist, so I have to write client notes etc. I thought I'd start with catridges and see how much ink I actually need before I might think of converters.

I had a couple of questions which I hope the members of this board will be able to answer in their infinite wisdom smile.gif

I'm trying to find the best price for it - I'm getting it at $136 at Montgomerypens.com, which is very fair compared to about $240 that it costs over here in the UK. I'll be shipping over to London, so wherever I get it from needs to have international shipping. Does anyone know of any place cheaper? Also, importantly, are montgomery reliable and will I need the insurance, which is another $15?

Secondly, the cap is sterling silver - I'm sure it will tarnish with time, but is it easily polishable? I'm obviously looking for something that lasts.

I tried out the pen at a store - it writes wonderfully and I think aesthetically its stunning. I'm just wondering what others think of it.

I think thats all I wanted to ask write now, I'll bother you all again later. Thank you in advance for any kind replies.

==================

I have purchased from montgomery stationers in the past, and had no problems. Sometimes, their prices are not the best. You can check www.penhero.com, www.swisherpens.com, www.joon.com and compare.
I always include insurance on my pens.
As for the silver, I think almost every sterling pen I own came with a polishing cloth. I also picked up one for cheap at some chain store.

Enjoy your pen, that one is very cute! thumbup.gif

I have the sterling silver Townsend and Century Classic and I find that they do not tarnish with constant use but develop a lovely depth of soft shine. Even the caps remain tarnish-free simply because of being handled.
If they are left for a long time and develop some discolouration, the cloth that comes with them will easily deal with it (or a silver cloth from any jewellers), though it does go away with use again.

Enjoy your pen,
Chris

Thank you kindly Diane and Chris. It seems penhero have it for cheaper but aren't giving me the option of a fine nib. I'll give them a call tomorrow to see if its possible.

Thanks again.
