I just bought a bottle of Parker Quink Black ink. The bottle doesn't say whether it's washable or permanent. Also I can't find a review of Parker Black on this forum. The box is silver. The bottle has a black label. The manufacturer's number on the stick on label on the box is :3011-00.
I would appreciate any opinions or experiences with this ink, including whether or not it's permanent and how safe an ink it is for nibs, feeds, and filling mechanisms.
Thanks,
Ron

Quink is a very old, vintage-style ink. Very safe. Not permanent or waterproof. There are very few truly permanent inks, most notably the Noodlers line of "bulletproof" inks are probably the best. Diamine and Private Reserve also have permanent inks. Others?

I use Quink all the time. It's not terribly black when compared to Peliken, Aurora, or other very dark inks, but it's still very nice.

There are permanent and washable verisions of many (most?) Quink colors.

As I recall, if you got the permanent version, it would be clealy stated as such on the box and/or bottle. Also, permanent/washable seems to refer more to how it reacts to clothes, not paper. Even the "permanent" Quink has relatively little water resistance on paper. The washable does come out of clothing quite nicely, though. smile.gif

Also, as stated, completely safe for just about every vintage/modern pen out there. Probably one of safest. Nice flow, too, although the colors tend to be a little washed out compared to other brands.

Last night, I dug out a 1980's vintage Parker Vector from an old box that has been dried up for ten years or more, at least. It had a Parker Permanent Black cartridge installed. A few seconds flushing the nib and section with lukewarm water, and filling the cartridge with the same gave me a perfectly functional pen. As you can see, even the Permanent colors will not clog very easily.

The new Parker Quink bottles have little written information on them. If there is a little logo of wavy lines in a circle, then you have the washable version, otherwise you have the permanent Quink. Permanent refers to the degree of fading on paper, rather than its washability. I think all the Quinks come out with a gentle application of bleach.

It also annoys me that the labels don't say which ink you have. You can only tell by the colour of the label. And it is impossible to tell if you have Blue-Black or Permanent Blue unless you compare one to the other. I now put explicit little labels on every bottle of Quink as soon as I take it out of the box.

I didn't know that! I also do not like the lack of information on the new Quink bottles. - But I do like the ink.

Indeed! Thank you!! thumbup.gif When I saw the lack of "Permanent" on the new bottles, I assumed all my local store carried was the Washable. Now I can check for sure. Thanks!!
