I received some brand new bottles of ink yesterday, including Noodler's new/relabeled "The Violet Vote" yesterday and decided I was going to do one page with all my current inks on it.

This is less of a review and more of a sampler. I borrowed the idea of writing the alphabet from another post I saw recently. Seemed to make sense. Inks and pens used are identified in writing and the writing was done on a lined Moleskine journal page.

Of course, once I finished, scanned, cropped, and was getting it ready, I realized I had forgotten to include my Noodler's Permanent Black... Oh well, that gives me room for another sampler scan down the road!

Noodler's "The Violet Vote" was done twice because I noticed it had quite a different appeal in the two pens I tried it in before doing this.

I can't say I dislike any of these colours. Noodler's "The Violet Vote" is a nice violet colour, although it seems to dry a bit faded out after coming from a medium nib in my Waterman Charleston, but seems to hold fine from the finer medium nib on the Sheaffer Javelin. I'll have to see how it works with the Waterman Phileas, whose medium nib seems a bit finerthan the one on my Charleston.

For richness, I am going to have to stay with Parker's Quink Blue-Black, but because it is not waterproof, I will be experimenting with Noodler's Legal Lapis and Permanent Black to try and get a permanent ink that is closer to that.

Finally, I really like the Private Reserve Black Cherry, and look forward to seeing it perform in something other an eyedropper pen that came with my newest Noodler's bottles... I was getting tired of flushing and rinsing my pens out! embarrassed_smile.gif

Lapindigo, which is 1:1 Legal Lapis and Violet Vote (formerly named Iraqi Indigo) has gotten some discussion.

With the new name of one ingredient, a new name for the mixture might be in order. I don't like the name combinations Legal Vote (no reference to color), Lapviolet (the mixture is too far from violet), Legal Violet (ditto) or Lapvote (the color reference is clear only to the cognoscenti of Noodler's).

For some reason I have been thinking about this. I really like "Lapilet". I can't really tell you why, It just rolls of the tongue beautifully.

Probably better than "Violapis." Or "Lazulet?"

Nice sample! Violet Vote is still something I'm thinking about, and I'm glad you used other inks for comparison. It does seem a little lighter than I prefer. Did you get any bleed or feathering at all in your Moleskine? I can't see any feathering on your scan, but it isn't always easy to see on a monitor.

I was reading about that mix and was asking myself the same question today, what to call it now???

I will be trying that mix out in the next few weeks (have a major project due for university next week, last one until September! ;-)

No feathering or bleed, even from the wet Charleston nib. It is obvious from the other side that there is writing, but it is in no way unusable or distracting. This particular Moleskine journal has been good to me! It is my last lined one, then I have a batch of three unlined journals to work my way through. Let's hope I remain lucky! ;-)

Although I have always been a medium nib buff, I am thinking about a Fine nib for the Charleston... Of course, maybe a whole pen would be simpler... happyberet.gif
